Chapter 20 by MidbossMan MidbossMan

First roundtable -- Suspicions (Linda)

You thought you ought to be next in order, but when the rotation got around to you, Dee made a motion with one finger, indicating the wheel should keep on turning. "Let's skip Malcolm for now. I feel that the two of us, detectives, should go last. Let's have all the non-detectives in the room speak first," she suggested. Despite it being just a suggestion, it came out no less authoritatively than a demand. You had no real reason to object, anyway. Seeing how everyone's accusations were going would give you ample time to get your own thoughts together.

Besides, if there was one person you weren't worried would lay you down upon the sacrificial altar, it was Linda. You two were old friends, after all. Not to mention that she was so kind, you couldn't imagine her naming anybody in a setting like this to begin with.

Sure enough, she shook her head and looked down at her hands, fidgeting with them slightly as she locked her fingers together. "Mmm... I don't think there's anyone I'm overly suspicious of yet. I know in my heart that Malcolm can't be behind it. Yara's so sweet, she'd never do something like that. Brunhilde doesn't believe in magic, so there's no chance she would. Dee hates magic, so that seems equally unlikely. Tallula is..." she paused, looking across the room at the violinist.

The other woman smiled hopefully, waiting for similar praise, as you saw Linda wrestle with her feelings.

"... Also so sweet!"

You wondered if Linda was trying hard not to say that Tallula seemed too simple for a crime like this? Or was it something else? Whatever the case, Linda wasn't pointing the finger at anyone. That was comforting for you... you were worried her mystery nut side was going to get a little too into this, but before she was a mystery nut, she was the warm-hearted person you'd known when you were younger. She wasn't the type to fan flames of mistrust with little evidence.

The other detective didn't look so happy about it. "I know you want to be nice. I understand. But you have to think critically. We all need to. It's only a matter of time before the perpetrator acts again," Dee warned your friend, her expression calm, but her words urgent. "Regardless. I accept your answer. Let's move on."
