First person (I)

I can't believe my first time away from home was to join the Xavier school. Don't let people fool you, small town farmer's boys like me may seem like rubes when we step off that bus to The Big Apple, but we ain't all exactly the same. Y'see... I'm a mutant. X Ray vision. Not as impressive as some massive hulking super strength badass and probably not near as useful as the mind-reading Professor Xavier can do; but I enjoyed it. Until the headaches, that is.

Lately, if I stare through things any longer than about five minutes my head starts throbbing something fierce and I feel like my brain is getting squished out my ears. I used that as an excuse to stay out in the fields more back home.... y'know acres and acres of crops don't tempt a boy to try to stare through things too much... but that's when Charles Xavier visited me in my head.

I was spending another quiet day in the corn, checking on the crops and reading my homework assignments for school when a voice out of nowhere came out and asked if they could talk to me. Not surprisingly, I thought I'd lost my marbles. Maybe the headaches I'd been getting were some kind of symptom of oncoming psychosis and I'd finally snapped. But the voice explained that he was a mutant like me and wanted to help me get over my headaches and figure out some kind of noble way for me to use my powers. A few weeks later a bus ticket for New York came in the mail and I told my parents that I'd been accepted to a private school with full scholarship.
