Chapter 5 by Debbuger Debbuger

What's next?

First bubble bursts

It was as though the pressure in the room changed, humming sounds accompanied with the protective bubble shimmering and what felt like hard to breathe air. Anara had to struggle taking any air in, almost like she tried to breathe a liquid and not a gas, the air feeling sloshy as it passed her mouth. Anara focused on the writing, the book itself illuminating by the thousands of the life forms now aiding her in her research, whoever the book's author was, some High Arcanist Poopytits, better deliver on his promises of "Teleportation and Apotheosis".

The passage she focused on in that split second talked about how the universe is connected, how arcane energy can warp reality in concentrated places and change matter and energy states. This idea was first thought of when some ancient magic users discovered the Transmute spell, or polymorphing someone to another creature using life essence manipulation. It was an intriguing read but didn't serve her enough. She already understood manipulation, both of energy, forces and life essence, she was interesting in the manipulation of the world, to jump from one place to another in the blink of an eye.

The next passage some of the microbial slaves found for her, talked about how when magic users were observed channeling vast amounts of arcane energy, truly vast in the most powerful spells and manipulations, reality seem to bend around them, colours dimmed and their visage distorted, sometimes making them seems invisible, like the fabric of the universe failed specifically around them. Anara pondered if it was anything like her making herself invisible, what she felt she did was let light pass around her, not interacting with her. But if you draw it with lines on a piece of paper, the best way to describe what she did was to bend the rays of light around her. She was unsure if she was doing that by bending the light or the fabric of reality around her. That would be a good point to do some more thinking on she thought herself.

As the next dozen of pages skimmed through her mind, some of the information digested by her, other completed by the tiny knowledge slaves, the outer shell began to crack. Bright cracks appeared on the bubble as pieces of it fell to the ground below, disappearing in arcane flushes mid-air. It took less than ten minutes for the first layer to fail, that was some powerful psychic damage if it manage to break such a ward so fast. Anara's time was running out.

Does she succeed before the second layer fails?
