First Quest
Kyle Meyers had never been one to seek out adventure. He was quite content with his favorite chair, his game console, and his endless supply of snacks. But when a freak lightning storm struck while he was engrossed in his third straight hour of gaming, Kyle found himself waking up in a world he definitely didn’t recognize.
"Well... this is new," Kyle muttered, staring at the bizarre medieval landscape before him. Towering stone castles, a dark forest looming in the distance, and oddly dressed people who looked like they had stepped out of a fantasy novel. He scratched his stomach, which had started to feel a little tighter than usual due to the strange attire, but he didn't care.
A sharp voice broke through his dazed confusion.
“Excuse me, sir! Are you lost?”
Kyle turned to see a tall, well-dressed woman standing next to him, hands on her hips. She looked about as out of place as he felt, with her fine royal garb and that regal air. She looked like she could be a character in one of those anime shows he used to watch.
She was taller than Kyle, easily four to five inches above him. Her slender frame stood out even more with her confident posture. Her golden blonde hair cascaded down her back in waves, catching the sunlight and reflecting a soft sheen. The curve of her waist gave way to long, graceful legs, and as she shifted her weight, Kyle found his eyes trailing without permission.
"Uh… yeah, I think I am. This doesn't look like my bedroom," Kyle said, glancing around. "I don't suppose you know where the nearest GameStop is?"
The woman raised an eyebrow. "GameStop?" she repeated, clearly not understanding.
“Never mind.” Kyle sighed. “So, uh, do you think you could point me toward a safe place? I’m kinda... stuck.”
To his surprise, she smiled. “I might know someone who can help. But first... I need a favor."
Kyle blinked. "A favor? You're not going to ask me to like... slay a dragon or something, right? I just got here, lady."
She chuckled. "No, nothing so grand. We just have a bit of a rat problem."
Kyle gave her a blank stare. "A... rat problem?"
"Yes. Some rats have been causing havoc in the castle. My father has tasked me with clearing them out. Could you... kill five rats for me?"
Kyle almost choked on his spit. “Wait, are you seriously asking me—"
"Of course, we’ll reward you handsomely," she continued, oblivious to his hesitation. "Name your price."
Kyle sighed. "Fine, whatever. I’ll do it. But no weird ceremonies or anything. I’m not here to become some hero or whatever."
The princess—the woman who had apparently been a princess all along—led Kyle to the castle’s dungeons. "They’ve taken refuge down here. Good luck."
When Kyle set eyes on the rats, they were not the tiny rodents he had imagined. They were the size of medium dogs, with glowing red eyes and sharp teeth.
“Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me," Kyle muttered, but somehow, the absurdity of it all was starting to appeal to him. He pulled out a random rusty sword from a rack on the wall and began swinging at the rats. One by one, he defeated them in surprisingly quick succession, making a mental note that fighting rats with a sword was a lot messier than he’d expected.
With the last rat slain, he turned to the princess, wiping blood off his shirt. "Well, that's done. Can we go back to your throne room or whatever now?"
She looked a bit awestruck. "You’re... surprisingly good at that."
“Don’t underestimate the power of a good joystick and too many gaming hours,” Kyle replied with a grin.
After the chaos of rat-slaying and a much-needed bath, Kyle was lounging in the local tavern, enjoying his reward. The food was surprisingly delicious—plump roast chicken, crispy bread, and a variety of meats and cheeses he didn’t even recognize. The whole experience felt... surreal. He had never imagined he’d be eating like a knight in a fantasy world, all while wearing some kind of weird, overly ornate tunic.
Aria, the princess, sat across from him, chatting with the town folk around her. She looked far more relaxed than any princess he had ever seen in movies. Kyle couldn’t help but watch her in awe. She was still the same person who had asked him to kill five rats not that long ago, yet she seemed so at ease, as though being royal was no big deal to her—her confidence radiating in a way that made her look even more unattainable.
Her long, blonde hair shimmered under the castle’s chandelier, the soft waves catching the light as they cascaded down her back. The pale blue dress she wore, trimmed in gold, clung to her figure, hugging her curves in all the right places. The fabric slid over her skin like liquid silk, especially around her waist, where it tightened before flaring out into a long, flowing skirt that brushed the floor with each movement. The dress was simple, yet undeniably beautiful, like something out of a painting—and it revealed just enough of her smooth, toned arms, the soft curve of her collarbone exposed as she leaned forward to speak.
“So… about that reward,” he said, pushing his empty plate aside and glancing at Aria.
She gave him a knowing look. “Yes, your reward. You did kill the rats, after all. What is it you wish for?”
Kyle thought for a moment. The fantasy world had some serious perks, and he could already think of a few things he’d want to ask for. But then, something just clicked in his brain.
“Well, I was thinking... since I helped you out and all, you could maybe take me out on a date?”
Aria blinked at him, her mouth slightly open, and then let out a soft laugh, clearly amused. “A date? With me?” she asked, her tone teasing.
“Yeah, why not? I mean, it's not like I'm asking for a ton of treasure or anything. A nice stroll through the castle garden sounds good, maybe grab some dinner in town... You know, date stuff.” He shrugged, feeling a bit sheepish but also strangely confident.
Aria's face softened, and she let out a small sigh. “Oh, I don’t know, Kyle... my boyfriend might not be too happy about that.”
Kyle’s eyebrows shot up. “Boyfriend? Wait, you’ve got a boyfriend? Seriously?”
She nodded, her fingers playing with the edge of her wine glass. “Yes, of course. I’m a princess, after all. I’m betrothed to Prince Hector, the heir to the throne of the neighboring kingdom.”
“Well, it’s not like he’s here,” Kyle replied, leaning back in his chair, a wicked grin on his face. “I’m sure he’s not going to mind. I mean, it’s not cheating if you’re the one asking for the date, right?”
Aria looked at him, clearly taken aback by his boldness. “Oh, it’s not?” she said with a surprised glint in her eyes. “If that’s the case, this should be no problem at all!”
Kyle shrugged again, his grin widening. “Awesome, we’ll just grab some dinner, talk about life, and I’ll keep it respectful. What’s the worst that could happen?”
Aria smiled. “Alright, alright. I suppose one date wouldn’t hurt... but don’t expect me to be throwing myself at you or anything.”
Kyle chuckled. “Who said anything about that? Besides, there is nothing wrong with that anyway!”
