First Date? Part 2

*Steele's P.O.V.*

After Betty brought us our drinks, Harley and I sat there in a somewhat comfortable silence. Though, I can't help feeling embarrassed at the thought that she had me so easily flustered with her comment. I know that is her true nature coming out. That means that she feels comfortable with me, but still couldn't she wait until our second date. Maybe, she doesn't think of this as a date, but I do!! After what feels like an eternity Betty finally brings out our food. We thank Betty for the food and she quickly disappears back into the kitchen.

We begin to eat our food and once again I found myself staring at the beautiful woman sitting across from me. Apparently I'm not the only one sneaking peeks as a couple of times I catch Harley looking at me. When I do catch her I just smile at her and watch her blush adorably. Our comfortable silence while we were eating is broken when Harley asks me question.

"Mistah S. may I ask you a question?".

"Sure thing Dr. Quinn!".

"You can call me Harley, Mistah S.!".

"Okay! Harley what's your question?".

"I know why Pammy, and several other of our colleagues are trying to find a cure for this rare form of cancer. But, why are you so driven to find a cure?".

"Well, that's a bit of a personal question! I'll answer that question if I can ask you a bit of a personal question in return.".

"Sure thing Mistah S. I'm a bit of an open book!".

"Okay, well here goes nothing. I have a friend whose daughter was diagnosed with this rare form of cancer a couple of years ago. He unfortunately has burned through his families life savings trying to pay for her treatments. Luckily, for him I'm pretty well off financially. So, I offered to pay for his daughters treatments. Thankfully, the treatments have been able to keep the cancer at bay, but it's not a permanent solution. I don't want to see my friend have to bury his daughter!!".

I hear Harley sniffle a little bit as she clears her throat.

*sniffles*

"Awww, that's a very good reason to find a cure Mistah S!! I hope we can find a cure to help your friends daughter. Thank you for answering my question. What's your question Mistah S.?".

"What was it that drew you to the Joker?".

"Are you trying to psychoanalyse me Mistah S.?".

"No!! On the contrary I'm truly wanting to get to know the beautiful woman who has worked beside me for a year. I'm hoping that after we do find a cure that we can still be friends. Who knows what the future may hold for us!".

"Mistah S. I've been thinking about that a lot lately. Especially, now that I've been away from the Joker for over a year now. I really think it was a toxic mix of me being fascinated by him, my own ego needing to get a win by trying to fix him and the Joker's manipulation of my vulnerabilities and emotions that drew me to him!".

"I'm not surprised that he was able to draw you in like he did. But, how do you feel now that you've been able to distance yourself away from him?".

"Mistah S., I finally feel free!".

"I'm glad to hear that Harley! I'm also glad you are part of our team."

That comment earned a blush from her and a small smile. We sat there and ate our food while still sneaking peeks at each other. It was during one of those times I looked over at Harley that I noticed her looking at something behind me. So I turned around to see what she was looking at. She was looking at the far wall of the diner where there was a jukebox sitting against the wall. I asked Betty a question about it.

"Hey Betty, when did you get the jukebox?".

She came back out of the kitchen and stood behind the counter and answered me.

"I bought it from some old pizza joint that went out of business last week. I noticed that it had a lot of songs that I grew up with on it. So, I bought it and had it brought here and had installed.".

Before I could say anything more I hear Harley's chair scoot back and see her get up out of the corner of my eye. She walks over to the jukebox and I watch her look through the selection of songs that are on there.

I noticed that she seemed to get excited and quickly runs over to Betty to get some change for the jukebox. She quickly runs back to the jukebox and makes her selection and puts her coins into the machine and the music begins to play.

I hear a familiar beat of a song start to play. A couple of seconds later the singer starts to sing.

*"Who's gonna tell you when it's too late?

Who's gonna tell you things aren't so great?

You can't go on, thinkin' nothings wrong, but bye!"*

I immediately recognized the song as "Drive" by The Cars. As I continued to listen to the song I noticed that Harley started slowly swaying back and forth to the song. I'm captivated by the chaotic firecracker having a genuine **** moment. I'm enjoying being able to sit here and watch her being able to let go and let her guard down and truly enjoy herself in this moment.

Watching her dance causes me to quickly stand up and walk over to her. It's like I'm being hypnotized by her dancing. I feel like I'm being drawn to her like a moth to a flame. I quickly make my way over to the jukebox and put my change in and select the same song to play again. As the song ends, Harley opens her eyes and is startled by me standing in front of her.

"Mistah S., you startled me!! What's wrong? Why are you standing in front of me?".

I answer her.

"Nothing's wrong! I just thought I would ask the beautiful woman in front of me if I could have this dance?".

Harley looks puzzled and genuinely confused, but she blushes as she answers me.

"Yes, Mistah S. you can have this dance!".

I place my hands on her waist and she places her hands on my chest right as the music cues up again.

We look into each other's eyes and start dancing. We are so engrossed in each other that the world around us melts away. We continue to dance and stare into each other's eyes. It's at this moment I realized that I'm truly in love with this Harley Quinn, and I would do anything to protect her. I look into her eyes and see that she must have the same feelings for me. At least I hope she does. If she does, I'm going back to Earth Prime with more than the cure!

*Harley's P.O.V.*

I was so wrapped up in the song and dancing that I didn't notice Mistah S. standing in front of me.

When I opened my eyes he was there with his hand held out. He asks me if he could have this dance. I'm confused and a bit puzzled by his request, but nonetheless I take him up on his offer. I hear the song he chose for us to dance to. I realize that it's the same song that I just played. We quickly fall into a rhythm and the world melts away and it's just me and Mistah S. As I look into his eyes I know that I'm head over heels in love with him. By the way his eyes look, I'm hoping Mistah S. feels the same way about me. I know that I want more than a friendship with him, I want a life with him. I will literally destroy anyone that hurts him. He is my big oaf!!

*Steele's P.O.V.*

Harley and I are so engrossed in dancing with each other that we didn't even hear the song end. The only thing that brought us back to reality was the sound of someone clapping behind us.

We both turn three shades of red from embarrassment, but quickly start laughing as we realized that Betty had been watching us this whole time.

Both Harley and I speak at the same time.

"Best impromptu first date ever!!".

We start laughing again as we head over to the counter to pay for our meal. We quickly pay what we owe and give Betty a nice big tip and we start walking out of the diner holding hands. As we approached the door, the bell rings as it opens up and in walks Dr. Silas.

We both acknowledge Dr. Silas and wish him a good evening as we walk out the door hand in hand. We walk over to the passenger side of the car and I opened the door for Harley allowing to get into the car. Closing the door once she was situated. I walk over to the driver's side and open the door and get into the car and start it up and put the car into gear and we leave.
