Finding a trail
A short while later, the group met up outside of the warehouse Barbara had mentioned earlier. They quietly infiltrated the building, quickly dealing with a handful of guards stationed around the perimeter before entering through an unguarded side door.
Inside the warehouse, the group was greeted by an empty space with a few crates scattered around haphazardly, with no signs of venom or anything else incriminating. "I thought this might be the case," Barbara sighed. "It won't be easy finding any clues in here."
"Speak for yourself," Logan said, sniffing the air. "I can still smell traces of venom in here. I can pick up a trail off of it..."
"Good," Batman acknowledged. "I've heard about your tracking skills. Let's see if they're everything they've been cracked up to be."
Logan gave an irritated snort. "I don't need to prove anything to you, bub," he grunted.
"No, you don't. You need to find that trail before we lose it," Bruce reminded him.
"Fair enough," Logan muttered. "Let's get goin'."
The four vigilantes left the warehouse, with Logan following the scent of the venom out of the warehouse and into the streets of Gotham. Within the hour, the group had tracked the trail to an abandoned factory in the heart of the city.
"What did you find here?" Barbara asked Logan as they surveyed the building from a nearby rooftop. "This place is completely empty. It's been abandoned for months, ever since we found Joker operating out of the area."
Logan shrugged. "Not sure, kid. This is where the trail led me... you know this city better than I do. Maybe you can tell me why we're here."
"They went underground," Barbara realized. "Gotham's built on top of all kinds of old infrastructure. Ra's Al-Ghul, the Court of Owls... they've operated in Old Gotham before -- Bane must have found a nice abandoned part of the undercity to work out of..."
Batman was quick to confirm Barbara's theory. "There's a reason groups like the League and the Court were able to operate out of Old Gotham for as long as they have -- it's way too easy to disappear down there."
"Good thing we have a Wolverine with us, then," Kitty chimed in. "They're the best at what they do."
"I've been told that a few times," Bruce acknowledged. "We're about to see if it's more than a catchphrase."
"Wouldn't say it if it wasn't true," Logan answered confidently. "Try to keep up, bub."
