Find the lady, find the answers

Was what he saw real? Leon wakes up with that question in his mind after losing consciousness due to blood loss. He needs to pick up Ada's trail and chase after her.

Chapter 8 - Damsel In Distress

Leon slowly woke up from coma. The wound on his shoulder has been dressed by bandages, and he felt warm in Ada’s coat.

“Ada...Ada!? Where are you!?” He looked around but couldn’t find the lady he saved.

And his rational mind came back slightly slower than his wounded body. He remembered that in the last moments before he fell ****, Ada’s eyes turned red and she bared a pair of sharp fangs. Her eyes were like rubies and her fangs were so...exquisite...

Even reliving that scene was enough to arouse him and made his manhood erect. He immediately shook his head to stay clear and began checking his body, specifically his neck, for bite marks but couldn’t find any. He sighed a breath in relief, but got anxious right after.

If Ada was a vampire all this time, why hadn’t she bitten him? Why did she dress his wounds and keep him warm with her coat? The best explanation here seemed to be him hallucinating due to blood loss. But...what if it was real?

Staying here and making blind conjectures would never bring him the truth. He stood up carefully. The wound on his shoulder was less serious than he thought and he didn’t feel much pain. If he had to say, the wound was healing faster than normal, which was strange.

However, it actually allowed him to use his guns without significant setbacks. That’s good enough for him.

Leon tended to put aside the vampire thing and tried to find Ada first. All would be revealed once he found her.

She must’ve gone on chasing Annette, he thought. The best bet was to go to the monitor room to find where she was. But then again, if Ada was really a vampire, her image wouldn’t show up on the monitor.

Leon giggled nervously at his own self-contradictory thoughts. He really didn’t have much options here.

The heavy door Annette escape through was locked, so the only way out was by taking the elevator around the corner. According to the map on the wall, it took him to the upper waterway of the east district. And by sliding down a slope, he came to the middle waterway.

“That’s a pleasant smell...” Leon pinched his nose while passing by all kinds of garbage.

It didn’t even surprise him that the sewer system was infested with vampires, too, most of which were sewer workers and Umbrella employees. He couldn’t move as fast in the water as he could on solid ground to avoid the undead, so he had to shoot his way through. This area was segmented by several shutters, which was helpful to contain the infection at the early stages of the outbreak, but soon became traps when the workers here were **** to get out.

After turning around the next corner, he found a staircase and went to the middle level of the south district. He was above a cable car platform and the control room was just ahead.

“A cable car...interesting.” He saw the Umbrella icon on one side of the cable car and wondered where it led to.

The control room was in complete darkness, but he found a copy of Emails to the Umbrella HQ. The sender indicated that the NEST, probably the codename for the HQ, has been contaminated with the virus and the failsafe system did not activate.

“So the virus outbreak...initially happened in the Umbrella HQ?” He was confused. What exactly happened?

With those questions kept in mind, he continued searching the area. By climbing down several ladders, he finally reached the monitor room. Before he could check on the monitors, he heard terrifying growls beyond the window.

“I don’t like the sound of that...” He cautiously grabbed his Matilda and walked towards the window.

The continuous growls were making him extremely nervous. He looked over the window and realized that the growls were coming from behind the heavy gate of the garbage room below. As long as the gate was shut, whatever that was could not get in, and he should be fine.

However, with another glance, he saw Ada lying down there unconsciously. She was wearing a red tight-fitting dress and gray, silk stockings, so the black debris stabbing on her thigh was utterly conspicuous. She was badly hurt.

“Ada!” He yelled aloud and even punched the window, and she did not respond. Looked like she was terribly wounded.

Leon was worried and immediately he was thinking about finding a way down. But as soon as he turned around and saw the monitors behind him, something was pulling the string in his mind.

He approached the monitors and switched to the camera in the garbage room below.

And Ada’s image wasn’t on it.

His heart sank at the unfolded truth. There was only silence in the room for seconds, and he was just staring at the monitor still.

Upon seeing the truth, he put everything together. He understood now why she took off her sunglasses to tell him to leave when they first met in the parking garage. He understood now why she turned off the UV lights in the jail before going in. He understood now why she was tired in the rain.

What he didn’t understand, was why she hadn’t feed on him when she had the chance. Why did she save him from the Tyrant? Why did she take care of him when he was most ****? But he might need to risk his life to help a vampire to get the answers to those question.

Was it worth it? He asked himself.

He didn’t know why he was still thinking about other options, other than “terminating” the vampire now or later. Looking at the woman in red once again through the window, he made up his mind.

If he ran away from this, those questions would keep on haunting him for the rest of his life. He needed to face it, one way or the other.

He went deeper into the monitor room. There was a chess-themed plug system locking the door to the U-area, which consisted of the garbage room and the main power room. There were three plugs missing, the king, the queen and the rook. According to the note on the desk, there were spare plugs in the supplies storage room.

“Who the hell designed this? ‘Knights Construction Company’?” Leon couldn’t tell whether his mood was going up or down after reading the sewers company pamphlet, “Now I have to walk across half the sewer system to find some chess pieces.”

Never mind...He shrugged his shoulders and walked out the room.

The treatment pool had a large platform bridge, which Leon just lowered by pulling down a handle on the panel, and was connecting this side to the cable car platform.

He went to check the cable car first, but the door remained shut as the synthetic female voice noticed him “ID wristband required for cable car entry”. He had totally no idea what that was.

Although, it was not in vain. He found a T-bar valve handle on a desk next to the cable car, which could be used to open some of the shutters that he saw along the way. Maybe they could lead him to something useful.

The only other way out was to step down the staircase and go back to the middle waterway. From there, he could go to the supplies storage room at the end of the lower waterway, or go back and open a shutter that could lead him to the work room. On either way there were full of disgusting garbage and bloodthirsty vampires.

“Look what this job gets me into...” He took a deep breath and dived into the unknown with his flashlight on.
