What does he do now?

Find that spider nun

Chapter 27 by lrocks911 lrocks911

But on to today’s work: he wanted to see that spider nun – the one that had snuck up on him in the forest not too long ago. He knew now that that was no coincidence. He might not have asked about it explicitly, but she must have shown up as a test of his legitimacy to take over the position of Witness.

And just as he did before, he quietly emptied his mind of any thoughts and concentrated on her as his object of focus. This led him two floors down, yet it was into another hallway which looked exactly like the first one he had just left. And he was drawn to one of the doors in the very middle this time, like a magnet.

Although this time he had certainly come upon the next room in a much more confident manner, he really just expected to see another dark, dungeon-like room. He pulled his head back from the entrance door and looked back again at the various monster nuns to make sure he wasn’t hallucinating. He wasn’t.

This seemed more like a portal that led somewhere else entirely, not a door. On the other side was what looked like a dark cave covered in giant patches of intricate webbing, lit by dimly glowing bioluminescent flora. He certainly came to the right place, but this was definitely no “room” he had just walked into. The humidity was already emanating outwards from the door, and he had not even stepped in yet. The air was sticky, but nevertheless there was something oddly alluring about it. Pheromones, perhaps.

Stepping in he felt the spongy texture of the floor give way to the weight of his feet; there was a small rectangular patch of spider silk – the welcome mat? That was certainly a thoughtful thing to make, but it really stuck out against the background of the cave.

The height of the cave was well over his own, but not absolutely huge. He would have taken everything else in that there was to see, but at the other end of the cave – it wasn’t quite that big – he noticed that the cave narrowed down to a tunnel which sloped upwards. The shape was as if something burrowed its way down completely vertically, before gradually sloping downwards, leading into this cave-room. He walked over to it and looked straight up – there was a gigantic rock blocking the way and the width of this J-shaped entrance tunnel was more than wide enough to accommodate the height of his body two times over.

Having examined this, he went back in to what pretty much could have been called the living room. It really didn’t seem like he missed anything noticeable from the first time – there were just more gigantic webs, elaborately weaved abstract patterns of zig-zags and rectangles.
