Chapter 12 by peach or man peach or man

Finally running a tavern

The next week or so passes by in a blur of preparations. Bjor told you to order all of the food, cooking utensils, and tavern furniture from the general store under his name and Thorin and Jor have turned out to be avid interior decorators, encouraging you to splurge on fine tables and velvet couches that wouldn't look out of place in a city cabaret. You survey the cozy interior of your completed tavern with glee. Who wouldn't want to spend the night here?

You have a good feeling about your future as you hang up the freshly painted sign to signal your tavern's official opening. 'Revelers Rest' A title brainstormed by Bjor and his sons as you served them rabbit stew around the campfire after a long day of construction a couple weeks ago. "Won't that invite the wrong crowd?" You mused in half protest to the noticeably rough name.

"Nah," Bjor grunts "Better to let everyone know that they're invited. You'll get more customers like this, trust me." So you did, and you do.

Your first month of business proves more than fruitful. Hungry villagers and the first travelers this village has seen in a long time both come to your inn for the good food and warm beds. You make nearly 6 gold before close during the busier days.

'I should be able to pay Bjor the whole 300 gold by this summer!' You muse excitedly as you wipe down tables. A number of customers watch your tail swing back and forth with joy as you think about paying back everything you owe so soon. Bjor has been such a good help, you hate to continue to rely on his good graces.

The town has been growing busier and busier the past couple weeks and a number of new wooden erections around town have been keeping Bjor n Sons from visiting recently. You can faintly hear the creaks and screeches of the active sawmill from the river a mile away when you stand on the porch in the early mornings.

The town continues to grow along with your confidence in your investment as the tavern reaches peak capacity many nights.

Finally, as the rays of the hot summer sun scatter across the interior of your inn on one fine morning, you write a letter to Bjor. You inform him that you have his gold in full and would love to officially conclude your deal at his leisure.

You are given a time to meet at a room in the town's manor so a notary can approve the conclusion of your deal with Bjor in two days' time.

How does it go?
