Chapter 29 by Funatic Funatic

The actual third trial is...

Fighting.

The knight slammed his gauntlets together, a rattling noise filled the air and countless weapon holders appeared on the walls. “These are all the weapons you have ever seen.” The knight said before I could even asked. “Except for one.” A great Zweihänder appeared in his hands. In life no one I knew dared to use that thing in actual battle anymore, but for a Shinigami with superhuman strength and agility swords were a great weapon.

“I will be using this. You can use every other weapon here.” I walked around for a little bit and tried to remember where which weapon was before stopping in front of a collection of daggers. “Two questions.” I said, “First, will these disappear once I choose one weapon.”

“No, but don’t think I will give you enough time to reequip each time.” He answered, I nodded as my hand carefully touched a representation of my father’s eating knife. It had no actual combat value, I was just being kind of sentimental.

“Second question, when do I win?” The knight slammed the Zweihänder into the ground. “A great question, you win if you manage to either beat me, make me admit defeat or break every weapon in this room.”

Now that last one sounded like a joke, altogether there were more than 400 weapons here. “Well then,” I grabbed my father’s knife. “Let’s start.” And hurled it at him while grabbing another two daggers.

The knight simply swatted the knife aside and then we stormed towards each other. My hopes to beat him by using the superior manoeuvrability of daggers in close combat where quickly turned to dust as he simply let go of the Zweihänder and blocked the dagger with his hands, breaking the blades right off.

He picked up his blade again as I used a Shunpo to grab a spear, this time hoping to outdo him with range. His sword simply cleaved through the wooden shaft. I threw the second half at him before grabbing unto another weapon.

Slowly it dawned on me that he actually planned for me to go through all weapons and I let out laugh. “Got to hand it to you, you insane bastard.” I said as I went through a collection of throwing stars. “This is actually kind of fun.”

Soifon had come down into the stone room at the usual time. It was part of her routine and the least she could do was looking how it was going. To her surprise and satisfaction it apparently was going great. While Nize’s actual pose was no other than the last 6 days she could feel his spiritual energy rising in small but regular steps.

With a smile Soifon went back upstairs, she had nothing to worry about. ‘Soon I will have my new second seat. That will lighten my workload considerably.’ She thought to herself as she walked through the empty corridors of the building.

Memories of happier times filled her, back when Yoruichi had still been around. Back then the black skinned leader of the Shihouin clan had teased her all the time but she had been Soifon’s hero and mentor nevertheless, Urahara had been around a lot to. That damned man, the betrayer that had made Yoruichi leave the Soul Society and Soifon with it.

One day Soifon was going to find both of them, when that time came, no one would stop her wrath.

Remember what I said earlier? Yeah this was still fun. I first thought he knight had picked the Zweihänder because it went well with the whole crusader look but after breaking through like half the arsenal I understood that he picked it because it was the sturdiest among the weapons I knew off.

And that was kind off the problem. Because his condition had been to break every weapon in the room that meant I had to destroy that one too. Which is why I was no longer attacking the knight himself but slowly widdling down on the chunk of metal that was the Zweihänder.

It wasn’t going exactly great. “Hey, let me guess something.” I said in between a bayonette and a broken glass bottle. “What is it?” the knight said as he caught and crushed the bottle with his hand. “This whole thing is a metaphor about how mortal weapons are of no use anymore and I have to rely on you in the future isn’t it?” I fired a musket at the knight, as if to prove my point the bullet simply ricocheted off into a nearby wall.

The knight stopped while I took the time to reload, just for the fun of it. “Truly, you are worthy of being my owner.” He said and politely waited. “Nah, mate. We are just both shit at metaphors.”

He threw his head back and laughed. I followed suit. Then Shunpoed behind him and hit him on the head with the musket.

426 weapons later.
