Father's invitation

"Ed Davis"

Kimberly reads the letter over again. She had always dreamed of meeting her real father. Even at a young age she never much liked Mike. He did support her and her mother but he just never loved her like she thought a father should. She felt herself get excited at finally meeting her dad. She didn't even know what his voice sounded like, he is a total stranger to her, but that was about to change.

Stepping off the bus a block from the letter's address Kim takes in a deep breath. Her nerves were getting to her. She had never traveled to a foreign country before, much less traveled at all without her mother or Mike. The nervous girl started to regret telling her girlfriend Terra to stay at the hotel. She exhales as she finds the name she was looking for on the front doors ringer.

"Ed Davis"

Kim reads the name again almost losing herself in thought before a masculine voice snaps her back to the present. The small camera on the apartment complex's door speaks out to her.

"Kimberly? Is that really you? Please come in, I'll be right down. Oh and watch the first step."

A buzzer followed by the door's lock clicking open signals Kim to proceed. She almost trips face first into the lobby, her foot snagging on an uneven step. Steadying herself, she quickly glances around, relived that no one was around to see the young girl almost kill herself on the building hardwood floor. A moment passes, the lobby music humming ij the background. Then the sliding doors of a nearby elevator brakes the mundane rhythm.

Out from the mechanical doors steps a tall dark haired man. Wearing a relaxed, tropical button up and tight blue jeans he looks around quickly spotting Kim. He gives a broad charming smile as he waves, walking over to her.

"H-hello Kim . . ." He coughs, clearly just as nervous as she is ". . . I'm your . . . I mean my name's Ed, I-I'm your father."

They both stand 3 feet apart, trying to find the right path forward.
