What happens next?

Faith-in-Joyce (surprise, surprise) has mommy issues

"Wait a minute!" said Faith. "You're supposed to be my mother?"

The figure before her just smiled. "What's the matter, Faith? Has it been that long since you bailed out on me?"

"I didn't 'bail out on you'," said Faith. "I was taken away by Social Services. You had issues, Mom. Serious -- Wait a minute! You're not my mother!"

"Yes, you keep telling yourself that, Faith," said the woman who looked so much like her mother. "You were always a bit of a knowitall. No wonder you hate that Summers girl so much. No doubt she's one of the few people who's seen past your bullshit."

"That's it," said Faith-in-Joyce to herself. "I'm out of here. I'll buy the damn dolls somewhere else."

But as she turned to walk away, she heard yet another voice cry, "Come back, Faith! Don't let the vampires get me! Come back, Faith! Kakistos is here! Save me, Faith! Save me, Faith!'

It was the voice of her first Watcher, one of the few people in her pre-Sunnydale life who was kind to her. And she had died a rather nasty **** in the end -- because in Faith's world, that's what happened to people who were kind. The monsters got them.

Faith-in-Joyce turned and averted her eyes from the figure before her. "You're not her. My real Watcher wanted me to run. She begged me to leave. She sacrificed her life so that I could survive."

The figure of her first Watcher smiled. "How do you know she didn't change her mind, Faith? How do you know she did not die calling out your name? How do you know, Faith? How do you know?"

Faith-in-Joyce looked the ghostly figure in the eye and said, "I don't. But I didn't abandon her. You talk as if I deliberately killed her. I didn't. So stop trying to play me and leave me alone."

"You might be right, Faith," said the figure. "You didn't kill her."

Then the figure changed to a different one. An one-armed woman in a tweed suit and a very, very familiar face.

"However, you did kill me," said the figure with a strong English accent. "Of course, the Summers girl did most of the actual wet work but you certainly did your best to help. Didn't you, Faith?"
