FFF - QT was hiding

“They’d already cleared out of there,” you tell her, making a point to sound annoyed. “They must’ve known it was over when I took Shiv and Shank. They knew you wouldn’t let it rest and they took off. This one was hiding.” You point at QT. “When I was there the first time, I saw how Cherry treated her. You knew, didn’t you? That Queen Tess was completely made up.”

Boss Murphy glowers.

“I suspected.” She looks away and you look as well. Reggie is with the onlookers. Her face is stony. Reggie left Free Gurls to live in New Gurlberg. It looks like Boss Murphy feels betrayed because Reggie didn’t spill the tea. Now Boss Murphy looks suspicious. “They left just like that?”

“They left a lot behind,” you say, and Boss Murphy likes that. She rubs her chin.

“Is Chastity OK?” you call to Reggie, who nods. Her mouth is tight and her eyes look strained, but you aren’t sure which is bothering her more: Chastity or what’s unfolding in front of her.

You put your arm protectively around QT. “She’s not our enemy.”

Boss Murphy raises an eyebrow. “How can you be sure?”

“They’re out, Boss Murphy. They don’t have the numbers to attack us here and they don’t want a war. I think you know what they want.” To make and sell their chems in peace without someone robbing them all the time, but you can’t say that in front of all the citizens of New Gurlberg.

Boss Murphy takes that well. She plants her hands on her hips, looming over you and QT.

“I have to think about this,” she says finally, then points a big, green finger at you. “She’s your baggage.”

Yeah. If QT pulls anything in New Gurlberg, you’re dead. But you don’t think that you have to worry about that unless you have seriously misread her.

“Thank you,” you say, taking QT by the hand and pulling her toward Dr. Fairfax’s place. The red-haired doctor doesn’t appear to be panicking when you arrive, so you feel some relief. You find Chastity sleeping on a cot in a room with rusted walls. Reggie enters the room behind you and QT. Chastity is sweaty and it doesn’t look like a restful sleep.

“She took some Love Bug. A big dose. She must have a high tolerance,” Fairfax says with a sigh.

You’re surprised, but you also aren’t. You didn’t know that Chastity used chems, but Striker did tell you that they caught her trying to steal from them. She wanted to steer business away from New Gurlberg, and what better way to do that than for people to get sick from Boss Murphy’s supply? That’s what was in that package that she gave you. You did this.

What’s more, you had kind of assumed that because they had history and QT seems to have a thing for Reggie, Reggie would take her off your hands. But Reggie won’t even acknowledge QT, let alone talk to her. Some of that tension and frostiness has to do with other things, but not all of it.

QT doesn’t seem surprised by this welcome.

“You can take her home,” Fairfax tells you. “Just keep an eye on her.”

You make eye contact with Reggie and hold it as you lift Chastity off the cot like a princess.

Reggie left the Free Gurls, but she still cares about them. She also cares about New Gurlberg. She remembers that you asked her where Boss Murphy’s stash was and she knows that your story doesn’t line up. She doesn’t hate what you’ve done, but now she knows how two-faced you have been. She will never trust you. And she owns you; one word about what she knows to Boss Murphy and you’re dead.

All of that is communicated without anyone saying a word.

It’s not all bad. You’re convinced that some part of Reggie is glad that you got QT away from Cherry. You are not enemies. You’ll just have to make sure that it stays that way. Something tells you there won’t be any more friendly hookups with her.

“Come on,” you say to QT, who hovers uncomfortably, unsure what to do. She’s in an even worse position than you are: no home, no friends, and currently standing in the middle of a settlement that probably doesn’t like her very much.

“Keep her out of sight,” Reggie mutters to you as you walk past. “I’ll get the word out that she’s not what they think, but it’ll take time.”

You nod and QT follows you out into the night. It’s an awkward walk back to the house, but it’s dark and QT is hard to recognize when she’s not in costume and in character. You get her safely inside and put Chastity on the bed, then light up the lamp. In the dim glow, you face a frightened QT.

“You don’t have to stay with us,” you tell her bluntly. “But you can if you want. Make yourself at home.”

You leave it at that and drag a chair into the bedroom to be with Chastity.

This situation isn’t over. It can’t be that simple. Cherry’s not going to take this lying down and Boss Murphy won’t be satisfied with your word. On top of that, you still haven’t earned any caps because you didn’t accomplish your mission. It doesn’t feel good to be responsible for Chastity’s condition and it feels worse to not have the resources to help her. You have to fix this somehow… but neither of the two people that you would’ve gone to for work trust you anymore. Chastity has plenty of caps stashed in the house, so it’s not a matter of survival, but you aren’t here to rob her.

She stirs, then squirms restlessly. You undress and climb into bed. For the next several hours, you stay with her as she moves restlessly, humping against you in her sleep. You hold her through countless strange, quivery orgasms. She soaks the bed in sweat, but she finally settles down.

When she’s sleeping peacefully, you finally roll onto your back and stare at the ceiling. The sun’s coming up. You’re exhausted. Sometimes you have to wonder why you left the safety of the Vault, but then you think about Daisy. Everything is so complicated.
