What do you do next?
Explore the Apartment
You look at the two girls you talk with. Both still look scared, and you could guess you would as well. Even though you knew about the app before just now, the drastic way it has changed leaves you feeling on edge. At this point, it almost feels irrelevant what you did before now. Like the app had deleted itself and downloaded something 20 times stronger. Still, you have to keep that in mind. You did this.
"Well, I guess there's no time like the present." Sephora says this, as she shrugs. She begins to walk away, but you can't do that as Rebecca still clings to you. "Are you going to be ok? Do you want me to stay with you here?" She looks up at you, the beginnings of tears in her eyes. "N... no. I don't want to be in this room anymore." You nod, as you take her into your arms and start walking.
You look around the room one final time. At some point, Olivia had left. You guess that even when the world shifted beyond recognition, she still didn't like you enough to talk this out. You also notice Erica's phone is gone. The only thing that still stands here other than the circle and the numbers on the walls is the black glass chest in the center of the room, holding a uniform for a person who doesn't want to wear it. Still, looking at the box standing there with its terrible promise causes you to shudder.
You walk up the cold glass spiral stairs with Rebecca's shoulder in your arm. A spiral just like the image on the app. As you enter your apartment, you marvel at it. Just how... normal it is. The lights in the apartment still shine. All of your furniture is still there. Except for the yawning black structure behind you, you could believe that everything that just happened was a dream.
Your hand still wrapped around Rebecca's shoulder, you ask, "So, do you want to go to your own room now?" She shakes her head. "I want to stay with you." Her words are still scared, and you can imagine that to somebody so used to running and being free, maybe that shock at seeing the entrance disappear was the most shocking to her. "That's ok. Let's go to my room."
You head to your room, but on your way you see something. Olivia is standing outside the door to her bedroom. She speaks through the door, as she leans her head against it. "Open up. I can help you with this. With getting to understand this, with whatever job you have to do. Just let me in."
There is no reply, and you feel like she has been here for a couple minutes, trying to get in. All of your rooms have doors that lock from the inside without the ability to open them from the outside. Erica must have run in and locked the door. She's probably the most in shock, maybe even more than Rebecca.
Olivia turns to look at you, but whatever barb she was cooking up dies in her throat as she sees Rebecca. Instead she turns to the door. "Fine, just whenever you want to talk, I'll be in the living room." She brushes past you, obviously still distressed. The door to her room stays closed, Erica unmoved by her lover's departure.
You walk into your room, locking the door. You look at the window. The morning sun shines through it, the freedom taunting you. You go to the window, hoping to open it. Meanwhile, with the light of outside shining, Rebecca regains some spirit, a way out clear, the twisted game forgotten. She pulls out her phone, dialing 911. The phone begins to try to call.
It rings once before the phone puts out a busy signal. She tries again, looking at her bars, seeing no bars. She raises her eyes to see that you have opened the window. Along the top pane is still the beautiful day outside. But where you opened the bottom window, only black glass looks back at her.
