Explaining the situation

Cassie pulled out her phone and immediately dialed up her Titans teammate. "Hey, Conner?"

"Cassie? Look, I'm glad to hear from you and all -- seriously, it's awesome that you're not dead -- but I'm kind of in the middle of stopping people all over the city from getting hurt, so could you please make it quick?"

"We've got Krypto here with us. He wandered over to Titans Tower. Looks like he's been wounded by something..."

"Wounded?" a worried Conner asked. "How badly?"

"It doesn't look life threatening or anything, but he's obviously in pain. He's toughing it out though."

"Damn right he is," Gwen said, smiling as she scratched Krypto's ears. "Who's a tough boy? Who's the toughest boy?" she asked, trying to comfort the wounded animal. It worked -- Krypto sat there, happily letting Gwen pet him.

"He seems to be in a good mood, considering what he went through," Cassie continued. "What worries me is that with everything going on, there's something out can wound a Kryptonian."

"On one hand I agree with you... but really, I'm just glad my dog's OK," Conner said, the relief clear in his voice. "For now, at least. At any rate, I'm kinda busy right now, so I can't exactly meet up with you. Let me see if I can get ahold of my cousin, Kara. She's swung by with Krypto to hang out before that dome popped up..."

Cassie waited as Conner attempted to contacted Kara. Several minutes later, Conner called back, sounding worried.

"Something's wrong. I can't seem to get in touch with Kara. I don't like this... she was checking out an old Oscorp facility in Hell's Kitchen. Shit, and my hands are tied! Look, I know you've probably got a lot on your plate, but--"

"--Don't worry, Gwen & I will find her," Cassie immediately reassured her teammate. "We can leave Krypto at Titans Tower, and--"

"--That's probably a bad idea. He's going to want to look for Kara, and I don't think there's a holding facility at the Tower that's going to stop him... no matter how badly hurt he is," Conner pointed out. "Best you keep an eye on him. Besides, he should be able to help you track her down. Not that I want my wounded dog doing anything dangerous, but if Kara's in trouble..."

"Understood -- we'll protect him. Make sure he doesn't have to get into any fights," Cassie promised.

Gwen was quick to echo the sentiment, still gleefully scratching Krypto's ears. "That's right... anybody who lays a finger on my new bestest buddy gets that finger broken. Isn't that right, Krypto? Who's my new bestest buddy?"

"Do what you gotta do. I trust you," Conner told Cassie. "Just... save my cousin and make sure nothing happens to my dog. Look, I gotta go. Hopefully, we'll talk soon. And Cass... thanks. I owe you and Gwen huge for this."

"No, you don't -- we're teammates. Talk later," Cassie replied, hanging up. "OK, Gwen, looks like Fisk Tower's going to have to wait."

"So I gathered," Gwen answered. "Guess we'll have to call the others. What's the plan?"

Cassie explained how Conner had lost touch with Kara, and that he wanted their help in finding out what happened. Upon hearing Kara had gone missing, began to whine worriedly, prompting Gwen to hug the dog.

"I'm in. I can't stand hearing this guy sounding so sad," Gwen continued, still ruffling Krypto's hair. "Let's get going."

Not far away, Kraven stared down a pair of binoculars at the two women and the dog. He'd been tracking Krypto from a distance, fascinated by the raw power of the animal. Now, however, he was even more curious about what could have possibly wounded the animal -- a Kryptonian. This hunt was turning out to be even more thrilling than he'd hoped...
