Chapter 5 by Shibbar Shibbar

What do you do?

Exit the building

You quietly sneak outside the building. The sky is a bright navy blue and a shining orb called the 'Sun' caresses everything with its gentle touch. It would be a nice day for a walk, if it weren't for all the half rotten corpses and crashed cars scattered about. You remember some of these cars burning for a week before the rain extinguished all the fires, but now they're just blackened husks. It's eerily quiet too, no birds are singing and no dogs are barking like they used to. You scan your surroundings for threats. There's a group of infected shambling about on the road leading south into town, bumping into each other and walls, and emitting low growls thrown in with occasional orgasmic moans.

There's a roundabout in front of the building, with an old monument in the center that's surounded by a short metal fence. Going North from there would take you out of the suburbs and into some farm lands, as well as a few stables. That whole place is filled with narrow streets and paths, all lined with trees and thick hedges, though the long grass of the fields could provide a decent hiding place.

To the East are more suburban homes and apartment blocks like the one you live in, as well as the old school you used to go to, and the science college some of your friends went to, not to mention the gym where you once bought a membership at that you always promised yourself you'd use, but never did. Oh! And the pub 'The Pig and Whistle' that you spent too much time with your friends drinking in lies in that direction as well.

To the South is the downtown, where the tube and bus station is, as well as the shopping mall and supermarket. If there was a place that was even remotely defendable, it'd be in that area. That's where you'd be most likely to find still human survivors. All you gotta deal with is that large horde milling on the road and it'll be smooth sailing. Can't be too hard!

Finally, to the West, is the park, next to it a graveyard, and further past that the Police station. Thankfully you've never been there, but a friend of yours once got thrown in the overnight cell, and she says it wasn't pleasant. You imagine with infected loitering there it'll be more so.

What do you do?
