Examine the sarcophagus

You approach the sarcophagus and examine it more closely. The artistry on the stone is incredible. The lid of Imhotep's sarcophagus is especially intricate, showing a detailed carving of the architect. The flower you had noticed is located above where Imhotep's heart would be and is actually composed of thousands of tiny hieroglyphic signs that circle around a central obsidian stone. You reach across the sarcophagus and stroke the black stone.

As your fingers touch the stone, the lid of the sarcophagus begins to move. You jump back to the doorway to the previous room and watch as the lid slides off the top of the sarcophagus, exposing the mummy within. Unable to ignore your curiosity, you approach the sarcophagus again and look into the coffin to see the remnants of the famous architect.

To your surprise, Imhotep isn't wrapped in bandages, like other mummies you've seen. Instead, he's clothed in brightly coloured clothes and is wearing more jewels and amulets than you've ever seen before. The flower on the lid of the sarcophagus has fallen through and landed on the mummy's chest. As you look at it, the hieroglyphs on the stone transform into English letters, showing you a message from Imhotep.

The curse of Imhotep creeps ever closer. You must ask the lord himself for help in order to survive. Give the lord the essence of your heart or your lungs and you may receive guidance.

The message isn't particularly difficult to decipher. Once again, you're reminded that you need to escape this pyramid, however, now you have a clue of how to do so. The hardest part of the riddle is working out what the 'essence of your heart or your lungs' signifies. You quickly work out that the 'essence of your heart' is blood and the 'essence of your lungs' is your breath. If you Imhotep accepts your offer he will help you. If not, you will probably be cursed.
