It's been a long Friday and you can't wait to go home for the day. You sluggishly take your stuff out of the locker and prepare to leave. On your way out, you pass by Rebecca, Candy, Madison, Lucy, and Paige. Lucy waves you down as you pass. "Hey, Sam! Did you get the invite for tonight?"

You stop and stare in confusion. "The what?"

"The invite?" Paige asks. "For the massive party happening at the school tonight? Even the teachers are going!"

"I haven't heard anything about this," you say.

Madison suddenly barges in. "Of course, he's not going, you idiots! Emily specifically sent out warnings to all the boys not to come."

"Wait, Emily?" You repeat. "The girl who goes to Night School?"

"Yeah, the dumbass who got naked in front of everyone on that model walk!" Rebecca says, bursting out laughing. "I can't believe she's showing her face after that!"

"No, I mean I didn't get an invitation or a warning," you say. "Emily didn't contact me."

Madison sneers at you. "Wow, what a loser. You don't even register high enough for her to remember you. Your loss!"

The girls start to walk away. Lucy and Paige give you reassuring pats on the shoulder before they leave and say, "Sorry. Sam," in unison. Candy lingers but doesn't even look you in the eye before leaving.

You can't help but feel hurt. Emily's having a party and didn't invite you? And even if she didn't want boys there, why wouldn't she remember to tell you? Did she forget about you? Aren't you supposed to be friends?

You're too curious and call Chris on your cell phone, looking around first to make sure Crystal doesn't catch you. "Hey, Chris! I heard that Emily's having a party tonight. Is that true?"

"Yeah, at the school!" Chris says happily. "Me, Alex, and Amy are going too! Sorry she's not inviting the boys."

"I didn't even get a message to stay away," you say.

Chris is silent for a moment. "Well, that's weird. She's usually so friendly with you. I'll ask her about it tonight."

"No, Chris, you don't have to do that," you say.

"No, I need to know why she forgot about my best friend!" Chris says. "I mean, you're the one who helped her after that incident during the summer! How dare she forget about that? Hell, you should be able to come party with us more than anyone else!"

"You really think so?" You ask.

"Of course, I do!" Chris says. "Look, we're getting our shit together for the party right now, so I gotta go. I'll talk to you later."

She hangs up and leaves you even more confused. Emily invited all the girls, even the ones that mocked her nudity incident, to a massive party but left you out of it? What was going on?
