What's next?
Eventually, the tiefling returns.
Looking as dignified as possible as you sip your wine at the bar, some time passes before the door next opens. Glancing across at it with a feigned lack of interest, you observe the tiefling woman from earlier. She smiles at you, but something about it seems forced. She quickly approaches, looking at the bottle alongside you, and taking a swig straight from the neck. Now you're close to her, you notice her clothing is more ragged than earlier, and she smells of sweat.
Must have been tough to escape those men.
She beams at you again, though something about feels like she's trying too hard to act normal.
"Great job on that distraction, just the chance I needed to get away from those bastards! How'd you like a job?"
You just stare at her, before slowly nodding.
Enthusiastically, she nods back, and moves to the bar alongside you, producing another bottle of wine from seemingly nowhere.
"Great! It's basic stuff, client had a something on the way from Gauntlgrym, never showed up. Wants somebody to hunt it down. You in?"
You consider the offer for a moment.
"Maybe, you're light on the details. Tell me a little more and maybe I'll accept. What was being sent, when was it supposed to arrive, how many people are being hired, you know."
She shrugs back at you. You just keep staring at her, waiting for a further response, which eventually comes.
"Don't know what was on the thing, client wants it hush, I guess. Supposed to arrive a couple days ago. As for the force, two of us and a couple of the guys goons. Probably to make sure we don't nab whatever's on the thing."
The tiefling makes an expression of mock fear, before emitting a snorting laugh.
"Doubt they could stop us but, it's the thought that counts ain't it. So just four, travel light and fast. Couple weeks work, hundred gold plus we'll pay for the rations, and I might have something bigger for you if it works out. What do you say?"
A hundred gold isn't going to set you up for long, but given the chance for future opportunities, this could be an easy way to get back into the swing of things. Plus, this tiefling is a hell of a saleswoman. Though she did abandon you to the mercy of these criminals, clearly you had that situation under control.
