Chapter 15 by Gatsha Gatsha

Read the other POV? Or continue with Kyoko's story?

Even without clothes, Kyoko does some detective work.

Thanks to her creativity and perseverance, Kyoko had survived her encounter. She removed the head of her costume with her clawed hands, surprised when she found herself taking a big gasp of air. She hadn't realized how hard it had been to breathe until she was doing it freely again. "I can't believe I did all of that... You can come out now, Tsumugi. Shuichi left. Stay quiet, though. I don't think he'll be right back, but I also don't know how far he went."

"Wow... I couldn't see it, but that sounded, uh..." Tsumugi muttered, rounding the corner. Out of the water, Kyoko could see that the cosplayer was just as naked as her, her tall, wet, well-endowed body on full display. She couldn't help but notice that, unlike herself, Tsumugi was shaved... the detective could only assume it was related to the profession. "Well, I'm glad you were here! The idea of me doing something like that is crazy. I'd up and die, Kyoko."

"It's all about keeping a cool head," Kyoko replied. "I have practice."

"Y-You have practice in wearing only an animal head and doing a sexy dance?"

"No..." Kyoko didn't bother correcting the mistaken impression any further. Instead, she flew to her changing room to confirm her suspicions, ignoring the free bouncing of her unrestrained body. Sure enough, the only scrap of clothing left was the footwear she left on the ground. Every other piece had been removed from its hanger, and there wasn't so much as a facecloth in sight. She didn't waste any more time investigating: it was clear the culprit had gotten what they wanted.

Next, she went to Tsumugi's room, observing the door was open. The room inside looked similar to her own, except there was no footwear to be seen. Instead, the sole remaining thing in this room was a large, heavy-looking piece of rolling luggage. Kyoko wasn't going to investigate that without Tsumugi's permission. Even still, while the rooms had been almost as bare as their bodies, it left her with some curious thoughts.

Kyoko approached Tsumugi again, wasting no time. "It seems we were lucky enough that our perpetrator left us a way out."

"Is that so?" Tsumugi sighed with relief, pressing one hand to her bare chest. "I'm all ears!"

The detective crossed her arms. "Not so fast. I have questions first. Monokuma, are there multiple keycards to these rooms?"

Monokuma, who'd been staying silent, responded. "Nope. Those two you got were the only ones. I get what you're askin', though. I can open the doors without a keycard. That's how I got Tsumugi's clothes before I was ambushed."

This wasn't a surprise to Kyoko. She continued with her questioning. "Earlier, you said that the **** protocol opened doors on the path to investigate the body, and locked all others. However, our bath door is beyond the large door, and your body was in the bench room between. Why did our door open?"

"Are you blamin' me for that? Blame the dead bear, I see how it is... No respect for the dead. And after all the help I just gave you!"

"Yeah. Thanks for that, by the way. I owe you one, since it can't have been easy saying those asinine, humiliating things."

"Upupu! I just tried to put myself in the mind of the naughty Mono Gal. I owe it all to your acting skills."

Kyoko sighed, then rolled her hand impatiently. "Your answer, please? Why did the door open?"

"Well, all the doors near the body open. Otherwise, it'd be pretty damn tough to investigate the crime scene, dontcha think?"

The detective nodded absently. Putting together what she knew, Monokuma was saying the changing room door had been opened by him, and that all the doors in this underground area were open after the ****. He'd been cooperative with her investigation...

She also knew something wasn't adding up. Kyoko had no need to share this information now, but she'd already investigated some elements of the crime scene she was keeping to herself. Based on her recreation of the events, if Monokuma was telling the truth, the culprit snuck up behind the bear while he carried a bundle to be washed, killed him with some sharp, bladed weapon, then took the towels hanging by the door along with all of Monokuma's held clothing, then stopped by the rooms and took the clean towels, to exit when Kyoko had seen him leave her room. That would be an incredibly quick assailant, considering he'd have to either grab the towels from where they'd been stacked high while still holding a bundle of wet clothes, or otherwise put them down and lift them all again, not dropping so much as a single hair tie. Plus, the wound that had been inflicted on Monokuma didn't appear to be a single, quick slash, as she might imagine a swordsman could do with a sharp katana. It looked more like something that would be done by a smaller blade, working around the circumference of the neck. That would take time...

Putting that together with the stuffing she'd between the claws of the makeshift gloves she put on, and it was much easier to imagine the following scenario: Monokuma never picked up their clothes at all. The rooms had already been open, and Monokuma might have tossed the towels they'd left outside the bath over to the assailant. Then, Monokuma took his sweet time carefully sawing his own head off; in the meantime, the perpetrator was free to carefully gather every piece of clothing he could manage. Obviously, Kyoko's boots had been left because they weren't with the other things and there'd be no way to use them for any coverage.

It was easy to suspect Monokuma had worked with the perp to humiliate them. After all, he'd been working almost exclusively towards that goal in her disastrous encounter with Shuichi. Kyoko knew that, and she also knew there was no reason to let Monokuma know that she knew. Better if he thought she was light on leads until she actually knew who the perpetrator was... Right now, all she knew was that it was someone the size of an adult male student who'd been wearing a dark coat. If she assumed Monokuma wanted her to think that person had been responsible for her ****, she might also assume it was a person with experience using a blade, but that was shaky extrapolation.

She'd been quiet for some time with her thoughts, and Monokuma had shut up as well. Tsumugi was the one to finally break the silence. "Now that we're free, isn't there some way we can call for help, Mr. Monokuma?"

"I already tried calling for help once, and look where it got us! Nope, I think I'm about out of help."

"Aah... This is no good, then," Tsumugi turned to Kyoko, her eyes wide with panic. "It's plain awful! If there's no help coming, and no clothes... a-are we going to have to streak back to where we can get some? It's impossible!"

Kyoko regarded Tsumugi curiously. "What are you talking about? We have a way forward."

"Wow, you've got nerves of steel, Kyoko! I can't believe you're gonna go out naked alone for us."

The detective and the cosplayer stared at each other's faces for a moment, experiencing a disconnect. That kind of staredown would be awkward enough if the two women had a shred of clothing between them. Therefore, even though Kyoko had wanted to see Tsumugi come to the easy answer herself, she shook her head and clarified.

What does Kyoko clarify?
