Chapter 4
by
Omni-kid
Who is our protagonist?
Eugene Bluebeard
You are Eugene Bluebeard, born into the upper echelons of society as the only son of the prestigious House Bluebeard, which made you the sole heir to the Bluebeard Robotics Company.
However when you were just ten years old your parents vanished on a business trip to Mistral and the board of executives, with hordes of overpaid lawyers at their disposal, was quick to dismiss any claims you had to the company or family fortune and sent you off to an orphanage in the impoverished part of Vale.
So it was that your life turned to the worse, growing up in the slums with little hope for the future. Most days you had to work in a factory with the other orphans, which needless to say was dangerous and exhausting work, especially for children. Despite the demanding work and it's likely illegal conditions you were usually going to bed hungry, with nothing but grandiose hopes for a miracle to comfort you during the cold nights. In what little freetime you had you discovered your interest in metalwork and tinkering, often taking scrap and junk from the factory to use in projects at home. This is how you lived for several years, building your physique but leaving you dangerously skinny.
Throughout this time one thing kept you going, the dream of becoming a huntsman, a goal many others in the orphanage shared. So when you turned fifteen, the legal mininum age to apply, you tried to enroll at one of the local combat schools in hopes of eventually making it to the famous Beacon Academy.
Much to everyone's surprise, a few weeks later, you were accepted! But without a scholarship you'd have to take several part-time jobs just to pay the fees and buy the materials needed, not to mention feed yourself. During your time at the school you furthered your aptitude for mechanics and tinkering, you teachers often joked that it must run in the family.
This talent ended up helping you five years later, now 20 years old, just before your final exams. You still remember that day when the teacher told your class that you had one month to design your weapons. Some students cooperated in pairs or groups, which was allowed and encouraged by the rules, but you wanted your weapon to be yours alone. And so it was that you spent almost all of your precious free time in the workshops of the school, first designing a sketch then working on one prototype after another until you were finally content. With only a few days to spare until the deadline you decided it was time to train and get used to handling it.
But what is your weapon?
