Chapter 5

But what is your weapon?
The feather and the sword
Your first invention was not something one would usually consider a weapon, but something that could do plenty of damage nonetheless. To the untrained eye it looked like he just mounted a scroll onto a bracer, you had greatly expanded on the functionality.
It could do anything from reading your full biometrics to accessing and remotely altering data and electronics, allowing you to tap into calls or redirect bank transfers without leaving traces.
After trying it out by making the holograms in the library say crass or indecent things and hacking the school homepage to play a popular music video when opened you were content with what you created but realized you still had to name it.
Eventually you settled on "Infotracker". Boring, sure, but it was more of a tool than a weapon anyway. It was pragmatic though, as whenever you got around to upgrading it you could just add a version number instead of coming up with a new fancy name.
You were aware however, that while Infotracker was great, by itself wouldn't slay any Grimm. So you had to design something else to take care of that.
A more conventional weapon was probably best for now, you were going to have enough trouble getting used to Infotracker's UI and the amount of data it presented to you, no need for a complex weapon on top of that.
Wanting a versatile, simple, and easy to stow weapon that could be operated with one hand you settled on an arming sword, nothing wrong with the classics after all.
Soon enough you were in the forge sweating up a storm and a few hours later you had something resembling a sword. Then you had to refine and sharpen it, adding some engravings to the blade and crossguard despite giving no tactical advantage whatsoever. Afterwards you just had to make the grip and finally the sheath, both in a simple but elegant style.
When all was done you had to decide on a name for it too, this time deciding to choose something more symbolic. The most symbolic thing that came to mind was "White Dove" after your family crest and the symbol of love and peace, both of which you wished to spread and protect.
A few days of training and final adjustments later, it was time for your finals. You entered the gymnasium a nervous wreck, your entire future, or lack of it, depending on these next few hours.
First was the theoretical exams in history and grim studies. These were the essentials of every future huntsmans education and failing either of them meant repeating a year. You had little problem passing, scoring relatively high even without being able to use Infotracker to cheat.
But now the practical exam began which was a tournament pitting the students against one another. This year there were 16 Students that qualified meaning 4 rounds of 1v1 matches. The winner of this tournament would get a Beacon Academy scholarship, but everyone else could still pass the exam if their performance was deemed satisfactory. If you ever wanted to become a hunter, winning this was your only chance.
You had about an hour left until the tournament, if there was anything left to do, now was the time.
What to do?
