Chapter 1429

What do you do?
Enter the final chamber.
Before you is the most expansive interior you've ever laid eyes on. It might as well be a castle courtyard. The columns in each corner are so thick that even a dragon couldn't break through them. A few steps down from the doorway you've entered through is a sea of cyan lights. You've never seen this many automatons in one place before, even back when you were first breaking into the elevator room. Every type of Elok creation is present, even dozens of ALICEs armed with a variety of weapons as usual. None are moving, though all are aware, as they stare at you in unison. The first moment takes your breath away, as if the sheer number of people leering in unison sends out a wave of pressure. You squeeze your sword--glowing only slightly with an enchanting pink light.
What may be the most incredible sight, however, is what lies in the center. Coming up from beneath the tiles floor, and disappearing through the ceiling, is the trunk of a massive tree. The automatons surround it. Segments are missing, whether it's chunks of wood removed or the bark peeled off, but it all together resembles the same shade as the flesh of every ALICE robot.
There's a balcony above, on the opposite end of the chamber. Of course the man who stands above all else is none other than Elok Daven, in the flesh. He's just as you saw him earlier, with slicked back hair and a fancy suit--body like a hybrid of man and elf, of Absoterra and Earth. This is Breiah's ultimate lifeform. She called him her first magnum opus when speaking to Vivi. You've seen some of what he can do, but it's unlikely you've seen most of it, so you take no chances. One wrong move could end you, and all those you've come to love.
Beside him is Breiah, as if standing purposely in his shadow. Her eyes peer harder than any other, however, like a scientist about to observe a lab test. In fact, she even carries a clipboard and pen, and is ready at a moment's notice to begin writing notes.
There's a second balcony, on the leftmost wall, smaller than the other. Floating above it is Serafina the angel. Her green hair is tied back into a bun, with a loose curly bang protruding out over her forehead like a spring. Just as before, she wears a thick yellow sweater, but the lab coat she wears is much longer than her ally's. She wears the same sort of pencil skirt, however, and beneath that are black stockings into beautifully decorated flats. A gold circlet rests upon her head, and that along with her radiant, natural beauty, it's clear she's more than just a human even for those who don't know. She looks down at you with irises that glow like rings of light.
You don't have time to count how many enemies you face, but it's more than you'd like to fight with only Peony, Summer, and Aris as your backup. If it were Elok alone, it would already spell trouble. You need to stall, and hope some of your other allies come before it's too late. With how this lair is structured, there's no benefit to even scry on them, as you won't have any directions to offer. There are many, however. Someone has to show up.
"The door--" Summer mutters.
You hardly dare to turn around given the circumstance, but you glance back to the bee. Before you can ask what she means, you notice yourself. The door you came in through is bound by metal. Copper bars block the way out like a net of solid metal.
His laugh echoes out over the entire chamber. Somehow, his army remains unsettlingly silent, allowing his voice to carry despite the sheer amount of bodies inside. Every inch, from ceiling to floor, is nothing but pale white tiles, like some sort of twisted laboratory. The only doors in or out are behind both balconies, and the one now sealed behind you. He steps forward and wraps his fingers tight around the bar of the railing at his hips. "After everything. All this destruction and chaos. What was the purpose?" he asks. "Yes, you've destroyed much of what I've made, but it was all meant to be used for a final war regardless. You rushed my process, but didn't ruin it. And now you enter my home only to die. What a waste of a project you've been. But alas, I don't care anymore. My creations will tear you to pieces, and then if I'm feeling generous, I'll use whatever remains of your body for future research. When I return to Earth with all the power I could ever dream of, I'll find where you once lived, tear it down, and build a statue of myself out of solid gold."
You furl your brow. A rush a deep rage fills your body. All that's happened to you--what was taken, how you were played with, all the suffering you and your allies have faced--it's all because of him. While you may have found a place here in Abso, it was Breiah and Elok who kidnapped you, and now he looks you in the face. Even from such a distance, it's as if he's right in front of you. "You're twisted, David. I don't know what kinda life you had on Earth that you're trying to fix, but this isn't the way. You could have so much fun here. You had the chance to live a new life, and one where you don't become the pathetic lapdog of a mad scientist girl. That's all you are now. An experiment. Even more than you made me. And when she's done with you, she'll just move on to the next one."
Elok turns his gaze to Breiah for a moment before turning his attention fully to you. "Our connection may not be the same as the one you share with your allies, but our partnership is something beyond your understand. Yes, she helped make me who I am today, but it is my ambition that will carry me to my goal. In the same way we made you who you are now, yet you claim to follow your own path. She made me the Demon King, but I made myself Elok Daven!" he says as he slams his fists down against the railing.
"... Where are you from?" you ask.
"Pardon me?" he asks, though he certainly heard. He ponders for a moment before responding. "You're asking me where, from Earth, I was before I came to Absoterra. The answer matters little, as I'm far beyond the man I was then. You shouldn't think of such things either. But, I'll humour your question. I was born and raised in Saskatchewan. Canada. Any further details are a waste of words."
"Though we weren't from the same place, we're still both from Earth. Earthlings. How could this have all been your first thought when you came to Abso? After recovering from the fear and confusing, all I wanted to do was go on fun adventures like in an isekai anime, or an RPG."
"Were Earthlings. Not anymore. And this is my own version of an adventure, Kyle. Have you never watched an anime or played a game that follows a power fantasy? Anyway, call yourself what you will, but as I said, I'm not this David gentleman anymore. In this world and beyond, I am Elok Daven the Demon King, and my power will only grow with time. Soon, I'll be unstoppable."
He does like to hear himself talk.
