Encourage Compliments

It's crossed your mind that a good way to help Tyler with his confidence is for him to practice doing things that will build it. Like complimenting others. And who better than to practice on than someone who already loves him and often feels taken for granted? You whisper in Tyler's ear that he should compliment his mom's cooking.

Taking your suggestion as his own thought, he says, "Mom, these pancakes are incredible. You've really outdone yourself."

Surprised by the unexpected compliment, Cherie responds, "Why, thank you, Tyler. I'm so glad you like them."

"Tell her how much you appreciate everything she does for you," you whisper.

Building on his success, he continues, "You know, Mom, I just want to say how much I appreciate everything you do for me. You're always there, supporting and encouraging me. And everyone else for that matter."

Cherie looks over at him, a bit smile on her face. "Oh, Tyler, that means so much to me. I'm just happy to see you doing so well," she says, moved by his words.

Not knowing what else to say, but recognizing the effect he had, Tyler goes back to his breakfast and his mom goes back to her cooking.
