Emma finds a seat in the back
Emma's eyes darted across the sea of faces, a collage of anticipation and indifference. The room hummed with the low murmur of conversations, punctuated by the occasional laughter or the shuffle of feet. With a deep breath, she mustered her courage, stepping into the throng of students.
Navigating through the maze of desks, Emma felt the weight of unfamiliar eyes glancing her way. She reminded herself that this was just a classroom, yet the intensity of the atmosphere felt just as daunting. Her small-town upbringing hadn't prepared her for this - the sheer number of people, each absorbed in their own world yet collectively creating an almost alive entity.
Finally, she spotted a seat near the back, between a young man engrossed in his phone and another talking to a young woman seated next to him. Emma slid into the seat in between them with a sigh of relief, placing her notebooks on the small desk in front of her.
As she settled in, her gaze went to the front of the room. The professor just walked out, he was an older, handsome man with a stern expression who was arranging his notes. Emma felt a spark of excitement - this was it, the beginning of her journey in academia.
