What's next?
Emma's day
The rain drummed steadily against the stone walls as Emma woke.
She was naked.
The thin blanket had slipped down during the night, leaving her body fully exposed to the cool, damp air of the cottage. Her full breasts rested soft and heavy against her ribs, nipples already tightened into stiff peaks from the chill. A light sheen of cold sweat still clung to her pale skin from the nightmare — the same one that always returned: fog, moaning figures, hands reaching for her in the early days of the Lust Virus.
Emma lay still for a long moment, staring at the low ceiling, feeling the cool air move across her bare stomach and the soft thatch of hair between her thighs. Her body felt sensitive, almost restless. She finally sat up, the movement making her breasts sway, and only then reached for the basin of cold water. She washed slowly, the cloth trailing over her nipples and down the soft curve of her belly before she dressed: a simple cotton bra that struggled to contain her, a thermal layer, and the thick cream wool sweater that would soon cling to her once the rain soaked it. Cargo pants and boots followed. She tied her wavy brown hair back tightly.
Morning classes in the old chapel were quiet and focused. A small fire fought the damp. Emma stood at the front, her voice steady as she spoke about duty and desire in Pride and Prejudice. Millie took careful notes. Jenna asked a few pointed questions. Thomasin listened in silence. The young women respected her deeply — patient, fair, a steady presence — but even as she taught, Emma remained aware of the soft weight of her own breasts beneath the sweater and the lingering sensitivity the nightmare had left between her legs.
Sydney was not there.
After class, Emma walked through the muddy fields in the rain. She found Sydney working alone, digging in the cold soil with mechanical movements. The younger woman’s tank top and shorts were already soaked through, the thin fabric clinging heavily to her large breasts and the full curve of her hips and ass. Rain ran down the valley between her breasts and disappeared into the waistband of her shorts.
“You missed the lesson,” Emma said quietly, joining her without invitation.
Sydney didn’t look up immediately. “Didn’t have it in me today.”
They worked side by side for a long time, the only sounds the rain and the scrape of tools. The baskets filled slowly. Mud smeared their hands and the lower legs of their pants. Eventually Sydney spoke, her voice low and edged with frustration.
“Jennifer took Daisy and Dafne again. I trained harder than both of them. Stronger than Dafne in a straight fight. But apparently I’m still too… inexperienced.” She drove the trowel into the earth harder than necessary. “Sometimes I wonder what the point of all this training is if they never actually let me go.”
Emma paused, wiping rain from her face. The wet sweater was already moulding to her chest. “The council is cautious. They don’t want to lose anyone unnecessarily. You’re strong, Sydney. But the mainland is unforgiving. Jennifer knows that better than most.”
Sydney finally met her eyes. Her expression was tired, but her gaze dropped briefly to the way Emma’s sweater clung to her breasts before rising again. “And you? You’re really going to volunteer if they ask?”
Emma nodded slowly. “If they need me to.”
They carried the heavy baskets back toward the storage sheds as the rain intensified. Their wet clothes clung uncomfortably, outlining every curve. By the time they reached the old barn at the edge of the fields, both of them were soaked through and shivering.
Inside, the barn was dry and only slightly warmer. Spare clothes hung on a line near the back wall — thick shirts, dry trousers, clean underthings kept for exactly this reason. A large metal tub of rainwater sat in the corner, cold but cleaner than the mud they were covered in.
Sydney stripped without ceremony, peeling the soaked tank top over her head. Her heavy breasts spilled free, nipples dark and tight from the cold. She pushed her shorts down next, stepping out of them and standing fully naked for a moment while she wrung the water from her hair. Emma watched for a second longer than she meant to before turning to undress herself.
Emma removed her sweater and thermal layer, then the bra that had grown damp against her skin. Her full breasts settled naturally, soft and heavy. She stepped out of her cargo pants and underwear, the cool air of the barn raising fresh goosebumps across her body. They washed in silence at first, using cloths and the cold water to scrub the mud from their arms, legs, and the soft skin of their stomachs and breasts. The water made their nipples tighten further. Every so often their eyes met across the small space.
Sydney was the first to speak again while she dried herself with a rough towel.
“Do you ever get tired of it?” she asked quietly. “The rules. The waiting. The way everything has to be scheduled and approved.”
Emma dried her breasts carefully, then the rest of her body. “Yes. More than I admit.”
Sydney pulled on a dry shirt that was slightly too tight across her chest. “I keep thinking about what it’s like out there. Not just the danger. The… freedom. Even if it’s the wrong kind.”
Emma stepped into clean underwear and a dry pair of trousers. “Freedom can kill you just as easily as the virus.”
“I know.” Sydney’s voice dropped. “Still. Sometimes I want it anyway.”
They finished dressing in the spare clothes. The dry fabric felt almost strange after so long in the wet. When they stepped back out into the rain, the afternoon was already sliding toward evening.
In the main hall during lunch, the mood was subdued but supportive. People sat close for warmth. Rachel approached Emma near the end of the meal and placed a small folded cloth packet in her hand.
“Emma,” she said gently, “tonight is your scheduled breeding night. Everything is prepared. The room will be ready after lunch. This is the usual supply — oil, clean cloths, the herbal wash.”
Emma accepted the packet and gave a small, resigned nod. “Understood. I’ll be there.”
Breeding nights were a necessary duty — accepted, sometimes even quietly welcomed for the rare physical release they provided, but rarely spoken about with excitement.
Later, as sleet mixed with the rain, Emma and Sydney stood near the hall entrance. The fog had grown thicker.
“Breeding night,” Sydney said flatly, almost to herself.
“Yes,” Emma replied. “It’s my turn.”
Sydney looked at her for a long moment. Rain beaded on her lashes. “You never complain about it. Most don’t.” Her voice dropped. “Still… part of me wishes things were simpler. That we didn’t have to treat something so personal like an obligation.”
Emma met her gaze. The tension between them was quiet but undeniable — two women standing too close in the cold, both still carrying the memory of each other’s bare bodies in the barn.
“Wishing doesn’t change the rain, Sydney,” Emma said. “Or the virus waiting out there.”
The cold wind whipped between them as the day faded, leaving a heavy, unspoken longing in the damp air.
