Elevator to an Isekai

The old man had built everything a man could want for his home. Gym, arcade, library, squash court, a professional grade kitchen, movie theater, even an indoor pool in one of the sub-basements.
The house was three stories above ground and three stories below. Naturally, the old man had built an elevator into his home. It was a strange looking thing with double sided doors. The doorway I walked in through had the buttons 3,2, G, 1B, 2B, 3B which I figured out pretty easily. The other door had a whole keyboard and touchscreen set up. I hesitated to go near that damned thing. But I figured, its my house, I better figure it out sooner than later.

I tapped the screen. A prompt asked me to put in the security code to confirm that I was the home's new owner. Remembering how the Old Man's lawyer had told me that the house was a smart house and I would need a code to gain administrative access, I fumbled through my wallet to find the business card with the twelve digit code.

The machine blinked to life and asked for a biometric print and instructed me to place my hand against the screen to give the machine a complete scan. I felt a jolt which I had thought at the time was a faulty wire or static electricity.

<Transfer complete. System access granted.>

The words appeared in my head. They appeared like a text window floating in the air, only if I tried to focus on the glowing screen where the text appeared rather than the text itself, the floating window disappeared from view. It took me awhile to get the hang of it. The trick was to treat the information as something that was already inside of you that was only taking up my view if I was putting it there. These days I do not really "see" my System HUD anymore.

As I tried to make sense of this new perception, the elevator door opened and I was struck by the aroma of pine, birch, oak, and a thousand other trees which grew nowhere near my townhouse. I stepped from my urban mansion through a door into what looked, smelled, and was indeed a small cabin in the middle of a deep forest.
I stepped through the portal and breathed in the air of another world.
