Dwarf

Chapter 20 by The Dark Traveler The Dark Traveler

Dwarves are very similar to humans in physiology, except in size. Their bones are shorter but also denser than those of humans. They have a larger layer of fat under their skin. Their eyes adjust quickly to changes in light and have more light receptors at the back of the eye. This makes them more adapted to harsh environments and living underground. Their livers can process more toxins and process them faster than other humanoids, giving them resistance to poison and venom, along with a greater tolerance to alcohol.

Starting at age 12 dwaves of both genders enter puberty. Dwarves of both genders grow hair on their faces that naturally grows longer and thicker than that of other humanoids. The average bead length reaches the dwarf's waist.

Some female dwarves have taken to shaving their beards down to stubble or a short beard, closer to the size of a human man's beard. This is to avoid being mistaken for male by non-dwarves and dwarven men. Some tribes of dwarves find this practice to be abhorrent to their culture. Others find it useful as it makes it easier to distinguish a woman at a glance. This practice also squashes the belief that there are no Dwarf-women, and that Dwarves just spring out of holes in the ground. Which is, of course, ridiculous.

Dwarves live long lives. After puberty, dwarves age the equivalent of 1 year for every 5 years of life. Oftern reaching ages of 350 years old.
