Chapter 18 by ThomasMoro ThomasMoro

What happens next?

Dru confessions

"What the hell did you do?" asked Buffy.

Drusilla just stood there with the stake in her hand and smiled. "I saved you, Buffy. If I had not intervened, your mother would have turned you for sure. I would think that you would be grateful that I prevented that from happening."

"But you killed my Mom!" cried Buffy.

"Oh, no," said Drusilla with a bored tone. "Not this again."

"You killed my Mom!" cried Buffy.

"And she would have killed you," said Drusilla. "Is that what you wanted? You were all ready to stake your other self for an offense that she didn't even do but now that I have prevented you from ending up like the other Buffy, you chose to verbally crucify me for it. Once again you get to be the good slayer and I get to be the bad."

"You don't normally slay vampires, Drusilla," said Buffy. "You enable them. You encourage them to be cruel and you yourself prey on the weak. You're not in the best position to argue morality with me and you never have been. Anyway, if you had really wanted to prevent my mother from turning me, you would have never invited her to come here in the first place. You wanted this to happen so that you had an excuse to punish me for being a vampire slayer."

"Of course, Buffy, it's all about you," said Drusilla. "It couldn't be about any issues I had with Joyce or Angelus or the other Willow. It could only be about you."

At that point, Drusilla threw down the stake at Buffy's feet.

"Not this again," said Buffy. "What is it with you vampires and this constant baiting of Slayers? One would almost think you all wanted to die."

"For a bright girl, you can be surprisingly thick sometimes," said Drusilla. "I'm amazed that you managed to survive outside of captivity."

"What do you mean by that?" asked Buffy.

"You know what I mean," said Drusilla. "I was born a Catholic, I've lived a long time and I'm going to eventually lose to you the one person who made my life after **** endurable. Is that plain enough or do I need to get your Watcher to explain it to you?"

"I still don't understand," said Buffy.

"If you live long enough, you will," said Drusilla.

And with that, she walked off into the darkness.

Buffy knew she should run after Drusilla and stake her, but for some reason, despite all the times that Drusilla had threatened her life and the lives of her friends, she couldn't bring herself to do it. Instead she picked up the stake and went back inside to get away from the cold night air and maybe convince Amy to take her to a place that was a lot more nudist-friendly. Hopefully a place that would not remind her in any way of her late mother...

The end?
