What's next?

Dreadblush Mountain

"Excuse me," says the paladin, tossing her blonde hair and looking up at the towering slopes of Dreadblush Mountain. She's seen them before. What she hasn't seen is the huge pair of stone doors now carved into its side, gaping invitingly open. "What on earth is this?"

"Why, I'm so glad you asked. It's a dungeon."

"What do you mean, it's a dungeon? Who told you you could put a dungeon there? This is a nice community!"

"Not any more, it's not. Now there's a dungeon in it."

The paladin glances back down the slopes of the mountain, towards the peaceful town of Blushenburg. Even from up here she can see its bustling streets, its domed palaces, the spires of its cathedrals. Standing in the shadow of Dreadblush Mountain, it's a quiet, prosperous little city, a place where very little ever happens. Until now.

"Do you know what this means?" she snaps. "Adventurers are going to come from all over to try and get into this dungeon of yours. Our property values will be ruined! I demand you get rid of it at once!"

Daisy shrugs. "Not my problem. Just needed somewhere to put a dungeon. Anyway, the name was irrestistable."

"What do you mean, the name? It's named after the pink blush that sunset casts over the foothills!"

"Not any more, it's not."

"Anyway, why do you need to put a dungeon anywhere?"

"Needed somewhere to hide my Idol of Invisibility."

"An Idol of Invisibility? Why would anyone desire such a thing?"

"Once you've been through here, trust me, you'll want a way to make everyone stop looking at you. Anyway, it's priceless treasure. You mind spreading the word around a bit, so we can attract as many people as possible? And you might want to mention it only works on attractive women. If you're not an attractive woman, not much point in coming to the dungeon, I'd suggest."

"I will do no such thing! Don't you understand we don't want rascals like that cluttering the streets of our perfect town? I demand you get rid of this whole edifice at once!"

"Well, we can't just get rid of it. It's a dungeon. It's, like, literally carved into the rock."

"This is unacceptable!"

"Hmm." Daisy strokes her chin. "Well, I suppose what you could do is go inside and get the Idol out. That way the treasure will be gone, and you won't have to worry about adventurers coming to your town. Should be pretty easy for a powerful paladin like you."

"A splendid point!" The paladin places her hands on her hips and strikes a pose, her armour gleaming in the morning sun. Her blonde hair dances in the breeze, her blue eyes shine with excitement, her rosy lips are pursed in a smile of triumph, and every fibre of her tall, toned, athletic warrior's body trembles in anticipation of all the good, heroic deeds she's about to do. "I, Lady Elise of Blushenburg, paladin of Etherial, champion of woman's dignity, will strike out into the depths of Dreadblush Mountain, retrieve the Idol and preserve the town from being overrun, degraded and exposed before lowly strangers! This I swear, and may the goddess punish me if I fail!"

"Guess I should warn you about all the traps and monsters and things..."

"No need!" calls Elise over her shoulder, striding towards the entrance. "This will only take a moment or two."
