Dread

The five sat at the table, where Evelyn and Spencer try to pry information about their children's school day. After ordering, Spencer found more success in talking to the boys about video games, briefly reliving his glory days as the Mortal Combat champion of his local arcade. The food then arrived, so the group ate until Spencer's phone vibrated. Pulling it out, he found that Kirstin's parents were calling.

"Hang on I've just gotta take this." He said, before stepping outside.

Upon answering the call, he heard Abigail, Kirstin's mother say "Hello dear."

"Uhh hey."

"How's it going?"

"Yeah pretty good, but could I call you back tomorrow? I'm a bit busy right now."

"Ohh... Okay sure dear."

"Yeah sorry."

"It's okay. I'll leave you too it."

"See you."

"Bye Dear."

Abigail hanged up, allowing Spencer to go back inside. When he sat down, Evelyn asked "Who was that?"

"Eh, just an old friend."

"Fair enough."

As they continued to eat, Spencer began to fear how his parents-in-law would take to his new relationship. The three of them had been through something no one should ever have to go through, and in an odd way, it had brought them together. The inevitability that his in-laws would find out had been at the back of his mind from time to time, but now it was at the forefront, unable to be ignored.

After the meal, Spencer dropped Evelyn and her sons off at their place. Whilst her boys headed inside, she tapped on Spencer's window.

"So see you tomorrow?"

"Hopefully."

"Good. See you then Spence."

"See you."

Spencer leaned out for a kiss that Evelyn gave him. They then parted ways, with Spencer waving goodbye before he drove off. Back home, he tried to think of how he was going to explain his new relationship to his in-laws, a thought that kept him up all night.
