Dragon AMA

"I guess, first off, who or what are you and where did you come from?" You ask, trying and failing to come up with a polite way to pose your opening question.

The voice in the ring chuckles to itself. "I can't tell you my name, both because it would be unpronounceable in your language and because there are specific magical reasons for someone as powerful as myself to avoid revealing my true name. However, I will tell you that I am a Dragon. Or, to be more accurate, I was a Dragon. I hatched a very, very long time ago during the Age of Dragons, and after centuries of study I became an artificer powerful enough to slough off my original body and take the form of the artifact you now wear upon your finger. In addition to maintaining my life indefinitely and being nearly impossible to destroy, this form also allows me to survive undergoing a powerful magical effect that randomly tosses me through time and space. I have used this effect on numerous occasions either to avoid danger or if I find myself trapped somewhere with no way out. Most recently I was tossed into your path from an Age far in the future."

"Speaking of which, could you tell me when and where we are now? I can roughly guess approximately what century it is based on the level of technology and infrastructure I can see, but it'd be nice to get my bearings." The voice in the ring asks. You absent-mindedly give out the date and tell it your address. "Ugh, Hollywood?" The voice in the ring mutters.

"Something wrong with Hollywood?" You ask distractedly, still thinking about the magnitude of everything it just said.

"Well, no, not really." The voice in the ring explains. "All things considered, it's a pretty safe place to end up. No monsters or existential threats looming, other than the ones humans make for themselves, I guess. I don't think anything in this Age could even hurt me, which would be a nice change of pace compared to my last few destinations. It's just... Heroes and Villains around this time period are already pretty dramatic, and those in Hollywood specifically tend to be a bit over-the-top. Trust me, if you take my offer and gain powers yourself you'll probably end up interacting with some pretty eccentric people."
