Chapter 4 by SG SG

Well?

Don't get mad, get even.

Jessica had had enough of this guy and his braindead assistant. She chose something at random just to keep the game moving.

"Fine, take my anger. When can I leave? This place is creeping me out, you're all coke-y and intense, I don't give- huh." She stopped mid-sentence and gave a soft sigh of puzzlement. After a moment, she continued her tirade.

"I don't give a shit about the four... grand, I don't... um. I think I need to sit down." Jack and Chrissi rushed to her side and a stagehand brought out a chair. As she sat down, Chrissi patted her forearm soothingly. For a moment she tightened her grip as if she would pull Jessica up and run away, then relaxed.

"What... what the fuck did y-" Her voice was cut off by a sharp intake of breath. "How are you... what?"

Jack squatted beside her, putting his hand over hers with mock sympathy. "Hey, hey, Jessica. It's ok to be disoriented. You just lost a piece of yourself."

She frowned. "You... you said you were gonna- Jesus, you actually took my anger!" She looked down to see Jack's hand pressed against her left breast and gasped, incredulous.

"What... what are you doing?" she asked in a daze. "You- you shouldn't do that. That's not appropriate."

"Yeah?" Jack smirked, relishing her disorientation and her new emotional deficit. "How do you feel about it? Be honest."

"I don't like it. It makes me uncomfortable and scared," she muttered. "I guess you're wondering if I'm angry."

He mashed her breast crudely, causing her to stumble back a little. "I assure you," he said ominously, "I am not."

She reached up and removed his hand. "Honestly, I'm very scared. I think I'd like to leave. You can keep the money, just- I just have to go." She turned to leave, but Chrissi stepped in her way.

"You don't want to do that," Chrissi said. Her bubbliness faltered for a second. "Please," she added under her breath. "Something bad will happen."

Jessica turned to Jack, who was wearing a smug grin. "No spoilers, Chrissi! But she's right, Jessica. You won't like what happens if you leave. If you have any doubts, think about what's happened so far. We destroyed an entire piece of your psyche effortlessly. If I were you, I'd follow Chrissi's advice."

Jessica realized that without her anger, this situation filled her with fear. She also knew that Jack's logic was correct. She was at his mercy. "Ok, then what do you want from me?"

"Why, we just need you to choose another case! Remember, you could get lucky with this one."

Her eyes darted around in fear and she realized the audience had gone silent, waiting for her choice. "Uh, sure. Three?"

Chrissi opened the third briefcase to reveal a card with three dollar signs on it. She squealed with delight.

"That's three dollars! That means you get, um..." She started counting on her fingers. Jack patted her head and chuckled.

"Take it easy Chrissi, you don't want to overload your brain. That means $100,000. You get 100 grand."

That was an amount of money Jessica could barely conceive of. This thing might work out after all - what would she need anger for if she was rich?

"Now Jessie, time to make another choice. What do you think?"

She steeled herself for the next round. "Thirteen."

What's in the case?
