Chapter 64 by Mistress6175 Mistress6175

What's next?

Do some breaking

“Listen.” Dadonov whispers. “Engines.”

He looks up the road through a pair of binoculars.

“It’s them.” He whispers. “Get ready.”

Dadonov raises his rifle and aims towards the road. I follow his lead. I can feel my heart start to beat faster in my chest, but I’m not afraid. Every other time I’ve been around the enemy I’ve been terrified, but not this time. No. I’m too angry to feel anything else. If it weren’t for these bastards, I would still have my normal life. I’d be leaving school to go home for Christmas in a few weeks. I wouldn’t be out here laying down on the frozen ground with a gun in my hands. I would have never even met Fedorov, or even Smirnov.

These bastards are going to taste my fury. They came into my home, they killed my people, they attacked me. My life has gone to hell because of them.

The enemy comes into view, a convoy of trucks with an armored car leading the way. I set my sights on the car and follow it along the road as it approaches us.

The explosion takes me by surprise and the armored car is engulfed in flames. Everyone around me starts shooting so I aim towards the first truck and fire a shot off. I cycle my bolt and get ready to shoot again just as an invader opens the door and begins to climb down.

I line him up in my sights and pull the trigger. He bounces off the side of the truck before falling to the ground. My eyes widen and I feel a rush like I’ve never felt before.

“I got one!” I yell out, cycling my bolt again.

A few bullets whip over our heads, but I take a shot at the next truck where I see a few enemies hiding behind it. Another bullet hits the ground right in front of me, scattering dirt in the air.

“Good for you!” Dadonov yells as he pulls me back over the crest of the hill.

“You’re lucky that you didn’t get fucking killed right there.” Dadonov scolds me, taking a moment to reload his rifle. “Stay down.”

Bullets still hammer the hill in front of us, so I’m more than content with following his direction. Some of our men continue firing. Whoever is shooting at us stops. Somebody must have gotten them.

Dadonov peeks up over the hill and shoots again, so I climb up and aim for the second truck. I see one hiding behind the hood, and quickly take a shot at him. The bullet smashes the truck mirror that was right next to his head and he ducks down out of sight. I work my bolt again and wait for him to pop back up. He seems a little hesitant, and I don’t blame him. I see the barrel of a rifle sticking out at the very front of the truck and take aim.

When the stick leans out around the front of the truck he’s already in my sights. I pull my trigger again. He whips backwards, reaching for the base of his neck.

“Holy shit!” Artyom yells out as I duck back down behind the hill.

I look down at my rifle and realize it’s empty. I take a moment to reload it, but the shooting seems to be dying down. Artyom is still next to me and has a look of excitement.

Eventually the shooting stops, and we ease back up over the crest of the hill. The stick behind the truck is right where I left him.

The squad begins to gather around.
