Diego, from Ice Age

Good furry characters can come from movies that weren’t originally intended specifically for the furry community. As an example, you can count the amount of animals from child’s movies who were made into popular icons of the furry culture. Of course, while some characters got a considerable level of fame, others had what could be consider a regular fame. They were famous, but not necessarily so famous that everyone would necessarily have heard about them.

Among them was Ice Age, an original production of the late Blue Sky Studios. It started as a project that depicted the adventures of three prehistoric mammals, a mammoth, a ground sloth and a saber-tooth, who went into an adventure to return a lost human baby to his tribe. It was your typical goofiness comedy animation, with a lot of adventure and drama on the side. It spawned a successful series of Ice Age, which not only explored deeper into the three original main characters, but also added many others.

Speaking of the three original characters, Josh’s favorite was Diego, the saber-tooth. On the first movie, he was kind of an antagonist who eventually had a hell-turn, as he became friends with the two herbivores that he was trying to fool. Josh wasn’t sure why, but he knew that he loved the character. Maybe it was the attitude that he had, confident and even somewhat arrogant, but without being unreasonable. Maybe it was the fact that he was a carnivore, carnivores were charming, according to some furs.

All that Josh knew was that he liked the character. That was Josh felt really happy for seeing the face of a saber-tooth with the name “DIEGO” underneath it.

Oh boy...

“Diego.” Josh said, looking straight at the photo. “Definitely Diego the saber.”

As Josh spoke that, the figure of the saber was chosen, and then, the entire selection menu seemed to just melt away, revealing Fursona behind it, standing proud. Immediately, Fursona started to change, with his body becoming stockier, although not much. His face changed, as his maw became a bit shorter and also thicker, and a pair of very long fangs extended from his mouth downwards. As this digital saber-tooth stood in there, he reached out in the air and pulled out what seemed to be a piece of pelt from the very air, before tying it on himself like a loincloth, the kind that cavemen would use. That was when color and texture were added. His fur turned a soft shade of orange, with cream/white on certain parts, maingly his stomach and chest. His sabers shone on white. He blinked, his hazel green eyes looking at the human before him.

“So, I am your choice huh?” Diego said, that strong and manly voice giving Josh goosebumps. “Well, no surprise in there, since I am the best option around here.”

He composed himself, and then he was asking. “So, how are we doing this? Programmed scenarios or free experience?”

Direct and straight to the point, like the real Diego would be.
