Determined - "Let's end this"

“Let’s end this...”

Leon gathered all his strength and charged forward blindly.

Katherine didn’t expect this and she was pushed by him back into the UV light sterilizing room. Even with the amazing regenerating ability, she couldn’t entirely withstand the UV light and started to burn.

By instinct she closed all her eyes, but that just made Leon be more concentrated. She tried to escape the room but, with one of her arm destroyed by the magnum bullet, she couldn’t significantly outmatch Leon, not while she was still in the UV light.

With desperation Leon choked her neck with one hand and held down her only hand, pinning her on the floor. The fire on her skin was burning his hands, but he gritted his teeth and made all his effort to hold down this abomination.

“Why...” Katherine cried in a husky voice while struggling with all her strength, “I just...want to live...”

“There was a girl...in the sewer...She didn’t hurt me...when she had the chance...” Leon repelled her every time she tried, even when his hands were bleeding from the burn, “And you...You just...kill...for fun!”

“And what’s wrong with that!?” All of her skin from below her neck has been burnt out and her bones were turning into dust. The pain from all over her body has already made her numb, “Look around you! The researches of Umbrella will destroy humanity and the world anyway! I’m just enjoying the new world of vampires!”

“I will stop them...I swear...” Leon stared at her as her golden eyes slowly being boiled.

“Huh...I can’t wait to see you fall...” She made one last mock before her mouth was completely burnt.

In several seconds there was only a pile of ash under Leon. He gasped heavily and sat feebly on the floor outside the room.

“Good riddance.” He breathed a sigh of relief.

The gloves had high resistance to the heat, though he’s not so sure about his hands. Hopefully the burn was not too serious.

Even after she died, Leon could still see those strange things in his vision, like colorful lights and squirming tentacles. He lay down on the floor to rest, and could only hope that the symptoms were temporary.

“Synthesize complete.” The female synthetic voice pierced the silence seconds later, “Please take the vaccine before you leave. Have a good day.”

Leon really wished that he could rest for a few more minutes, but the clock was ticking. He struggled to get up and walked towards the chemical synthesizing device. A large syringe filled with some kind of purple glowing liquid was standing on the production duct.

“Finally...” Leon grabbed the syringe and left the lab immediately.

The vampires outside the lab were less as aggressive when Katherine was not there to command them. Without enough blood to sustain the thirst, most of them fell dormant.

Leon locked the door of the development section and killed the remaining ones in the reception hall, before opening the door to the Main Shaft. This place was the central knot of the NEST, connecting the total four areas with bridges and a level 4 clearance controlled elevator.

“Sherry is...in the South Area...” He didn’t waste a single minute and ran towards the area on the opposite side.

Leon rushed into the security room in the South Area, and immediately saw the heavily ill Sherry on the bed. There was a horrible scar across her left eye and it has spread to her cheek.

“Hey, Sherry...I’m Leon. I’m Claire’s friend and I’m here to help.” He put his hand on her forehead to check the temperature. He also noticed that she was wearing a red jacket. It's Claire's, if he's not mistaken.

Sherry slowly opened her eyes and looked at the young police officer beside her bed. Her left eye was golden, just like Katherine’s, and her right eye was almost scarlet. Leon could already feel the powerful mind control effect from her, but he managed to stay calm. Her condition was worse than he thought.

“I remember...” Sherry whispered weakly. Her upper canines have as a matter of fact become fangs, as they were much longer and sharper than before, “You saved us...in the police station...”

“I wouldn’t put it that way...” Leon held up the vaccine syringe, “Look, this vaccine can make you feel better, but there will be a little pain. Just hang in there, OK?”

Sherry nodded silently. With the vaccine being injected into her vein, she felt that every cell in her body started burning. She cried and hissed aloud with her fangs bared and her body twitching.

Leon was holding her hand tightly all this time, giving her the courage she needed to pull through.

Seconds later she became calm again, but she didn’t feel much better. The red in her right eye faded for a bit, everything else was just the same. It was like the vaccine didn’t have much effect on her.

“I don’t want to become a monster, Leon...” Sherry cried as a drop of tear slid down to the pillow. She could feel her fangs itching, craving for blood. If she had enough strength to get up, she believed that she would’ve jumped on Leon and had a feast already.

“You won’t.” Leon replied firmly.

“You all said that...” Sherry closed her eyes in despair, “I don’t think I can hold on for much longer...”

“Hey, no matter what happens, you don’t give up on yourself. You have the right to live.” Leon touched her forehead again and noticed that it was not as hot as before, so he smiled, “Claire must be fight hard for that. She hasn’t given up yet. You shouldn’t, either.”

“Thank you...I’ll try...” Sherry replied with a faint smile.

“Claire is looking for the antiviral agent you need. She’ll be back soon, I’m sure of it.” Leon stood up, “I need to go, too. There’s something very important that I need to get. Stay safe, Sherry.”

She nodded quietly and lay flat on the bed. Leon couldn’t imagine the pain she was enduring at the moment, but he could only hope that Claire would make it in time.

He gently held her hand one more time to say goodbye and left the security room.
