Chapter 15 by Kongforce
Was doctor Kellerman able to reassure Batgirl?
Despite his best efforts no.
He believes in me," thought Batgirl as she looked upon Kellerman's hand sitting firmly on her shoulder. When she first arrived at Arkham Batgirl considered her doctor to be her enemy fighting him at every turn. Yet here he stood placing his hand on the shoulder of her straight jacket telling her he believed in her. His actions and words meant a lot to Batgirl even though there was a straight jacket between his hand and her actual shoulder just knowing that his hand was there filled her with a warm feeling.
That warm feeling told her she needed to do anything she could to continue making her doctor proud. At the same time though she couldn't completely shut out the voice deep inside that told her that this wrong. That voice had been loud when Batgirl first arrived at Arkham so much so that she had physically assaulted a couple of nurses trying to escape. It's why even after time had passed Batgirl remained in her straight jacket not only for the safety of the staff but hers as well. Thankfully though with the help of Doctor Kellerman and her medication the voice inside had almost gone away only appearing at times like an itch inside she couldn't scratch.
Today though that itch was screaming inside for Batgirl to listen to it. The voice was once more telling her she couldn't trust Kellerman and that she could only trust herself. That didn't sound right to Batgirl though as the only thing she was sure of was that she could trust her doctor even if the voice told her she couldn't. The doctor had told her that the voice was her sickness trying to keep its hold and not to trust it so she did everything she could to ignore it. Now though she had to make a decision would she trust the man who was like a father figure to her or the voice inside? One offered her support and freedom well listening to the other would mean turning her back on the only person that believed in her.
"I can't do it, doctor" Batgirl cried out. "I know you say you only want to help me but the voice is telling me that's a lie," Batgirl said with tears in her eyes. She hated letting the doctor down but she couldn't risk the chance the voice was right even if she knew what that would mean.
"I'm disappointed in you my Patient," Kellerman said as he took his hand off Batgirl's shoulder. The tone in his voice had quickly changed from warm and inviting to cold and strict. Not that Batgirl was surprised by this change she had disappointed the doctor it was only right that he would feel betrayed.
How does Kellerman react to this failure?
