Desna and Eska
*As the duo's file opens up, a feminine voice begins to read out a well-rehearsed letter. A*lmost as if she's read it enough times to know it by heart.
To My Beloved Children, Desna and Eska,
I have loved you as best I can, as fiercely as any mother could, though I fear I have also given you a terrible burden. One that weighs upon my heart even now. I am no perfect mother, nor perfect person and neither was your father the perfect chief, but I have always strived to protect you and see you happy in whatever cold, quiet way you choose to show it. I have glimpsed fragments of what lies ahead—through spirits, visions, and the heavy weight of leadership you now carry. I have seen your strength, your unbreakable bond, and the loneliness that clings to you both despite your power and status. You stand together against the world, yet the world offers so few who are worthy to stand with you. You come so close to something resembling peace and companionship, only for duty, betrayal, or your own guarded hearts to pull it away time and time again. Thus, in my love and desperation, I have reached out to an ancient and powerful service known as Cupid’s Wish. I have enrolled you both in their match-making system as a paired royal unit. You may discover this letter years before the contract awakens. You will likely be angry. You may even believe you need no one else. And if you have already found someone who catches your eye, forgive me—but I act with your long-term happiness in my heart. Because you are two halves of a greater whole, I have enacted the following conditions for any prospective partner who would join you in marriage. The system will only accept a match who satisfies them: For any person who wishes to wed both Desna and Eska, they must meet these requirements to be eligible: - They must possess a quiet, enduring strength and resilience—a man (or woman) who has been forged by hardship yet retains a core of honor and loyalty. Someone capable of matching your intensity without being consumed by it, and who can offer the stability and warmth your lives have often lacked. - They must be able to stand beside you both without fear—able to understand and support your deep bond rather than trying to break it, while also challenging you when needed. They must be strong enough to face the threats that come with ruling the Northern Water Tribe, both from the physical world and the spirits beyond. - They must be willing to place the safety, happiness, and well-being of both of you above their own ego or ambitions. To accept you as a pair, not as individuals to be divided. - They must have the courage to weather the sarcasm, the aloofness, and the overwhelming nature of your combined presence—and still choose to stay. If such a person is found and the contract activates, they will have my blessing to join you in a rare triadic marriage. I know I may be damning another soul to the dangers that follow our family, but if this service is as extraordinary as it claims, the three of you will be able to endure anything the multiverse can throw at you. Desna… Eska… my brave, brilliant children. I hope one day you can forgive me for this. All I have ever wanted was for you to find someone who sees the depth beneath your frozen exteriors and stands with you through every storm. You deserve more than isolation and duty. You deserve to be loved as fiercely as you protect each other. I love you both, always. May this decision bring you the happiness I fear I could not fully give. Signed with a Mother’s Hope, Malina, Former Consort of the Northern Water Tribe Chief
