Derek Ashcroft

It was hard growing up while being the last male heir of a noble family. From your youngest age you were taught that it would one day be up to you to perpetuate the name of Ashcroft. Your sister Valeria could help carry on the bloodline and the strong talent for magic it contained but only you could keep the name alive.

Twins like you two were a rare thing but apart from the chestnut hair and Grey eyes typical of all Ashcrofts you shared little.

Your interactions with others were tinted by the main difference between you. Where she was a pretty girl with a strong bloodline that would be the mother of powerful males for the lucky family that could put a ring on her, you were a nearly penny less young noble with a title that gave you no wealth, land or influence. She had to bid her time and choose the right one amongst her many suitor while you failed to trigger interest in the few girls which you managed to make notice you.

You had started to plan to change that. Your strength in the Arts was in the control of lightning and the power of runes, the trinkets and artefacts you crafted during training were the proof that you could make more and better ones in a few years, their sale could probably fill up your family coffers and once rich enough you might even be able to marry a young girl from a minor noble family.

You spent most of your free time in the library or a lab during your studies and didn't manage to make many friends. Between disdain for your family or jealousy for your talent you weren't very popular.

Having just turned 18 you had now to enter the service of a mage to become an apprentice, only in 3 years could you be your own man and start your real life.
