Chapter 11 by Storier Storier

What do you do with the file?

Delete it

Looking at the icon, you laugh at yourself and shake your head, and find yourself relaxing completely.

Personality? Mind? Memories? It's just a file. Carrie's file, sure, but it's just ones and zeroes. And here you are fretting over it like it's the most important thing in the world.

Your day with Nick was phenomenal. Your day before that as the new you was awesome. And tomorrow is going to be awesome, too, so long as you've got this body. You feel young, vivacious, passionate. No wonder Carrie wanted to ride the high of doing anything you asked her to do. No feeling could be better than living a little recklessly. Now that you're her, you understand completely.

You meant what you said to Nicolas. You don't need Carrie anymore. You've got her body. Her personality was nice, sure, but people change over time. The snapshot on your computer is a static image of who Carrie was at that exact moment - willing to do anything for you.

But if you put Carrie back in the driver's seat (and even if you could, which you can't, since you don't want to leave, and the helmet only works when the user truly wants it to), what if Carrie changed her mind? What if the experience of losing a day, losing control, gave her cold feet?

Carrie meant it when she said she'd do anything you asked. You talked about it some before she agreed to the helmet body swap. If you wanted her to jump off a bridge, cheat on you, or quit her job to be a classy escort, she would have.

"Thank you for your body, Carrie," you tell the screen and the file. Your heart warms with love for your girlfriend, as well as a bittersweet gratitude. "You made my dreams come true. The rest of my life... I want it to be just like these past couple days. I hope you'll understand."

The file, of course, made no reply.

You wipe a tear from your eye, unable to keep yourself from smiling. "There's one last thing I need you to do for me, Care Bear. And I know it's probably not what you wanted, but I think it'll be what's best for both of us."

With that, you dragged the Carrie file over to the trash can and dropped it in. After a second's hesitation, you steeled yourself. It'd all be over in a second. You right-clicked and hit 'Empty Recycle Bin'.

You checked the interior of the bin, just to be certain. It was empty. You really were Carrie now, for good.

Tears streamed down your face. You'd never been happier.

How do you celebrate your new life and body?
