Delayed

Not wanting to get caught up in the twister, Alice sped down the road to get to Scraggly Brook. Unfortunately, she was too fast as she saw flashing red and blue lights. Pulling over, she dreaded what would come next.

"Good afternoon, ma'am. License and registration, please," the cop walked up to her. She obliged and gave him the materials, and he continued the conversation "do you know how fast you were going?"

"No, officer," she said.

"Well, you were going 80 in a 50," the officer informed her, "I'll have to check your license and see what else is going on, don't go anywhere."

Alice sighed and hoped that he would be quick, looking desperately at her clock. Unfortunately for her, the cop made a clerical error in typing her license number, and took several minutes to figure it out. Eventually, though, he checked everything and found a clean record for her, other than this incident.

The officer walked back to Alice at a leisurely pace with an envelope in his hand. "Well, miss, I'll have to cite you for speeding and reckless endangerment," he handed her the citation, "you can appear at court to contest it, or pay it now," before interminably describing all the dates and minutiae of procedure about her ticket. Alice just wanted to take it and throw it on the passenger seat, but the cop insisted on informing her of her rights for the next several minutes.

"Again, sorry to keep you waiting, you're free to go. Stay safe out there!" he said as he walked back to his car. The sky at this point was entirely black, and Alice noticed that the time was 4:32. Damn it, she just couldn't let Scott go like this! She pulled out and rushed to the trailer park, this time religiously following the speed limit.

She eventually made it and pulled up to the trailer parking lot a hundred yards from Scott's trailer, but it was 4:55. Her best bet now was to make it to the trailer, take refuge in Scott's cellar, and hope for the best. The wind, meanwhile, was picking up.
