Chapter 25 by Caesar25 Caesar25

Defending the dome

The ships descend upon Sundari, the air defenses and the shield of the dome have been activated. Sundari's fighters clash with Pre's, their troop transports head to their respective target areas to land the clans assigned to each sector. The shield is still active, and the automated defenses open fire on the enemy, picking them off gradually. As you are safe from the fierce air combat outside, you are far from being safe overall. Clan Vizsla is waiting on the other side of the gate to pour into the city.

Rantar (reporting to Pre through a comlink): We have lost at least a dozen men waiting for the gates to open and we haven't even entered the city yet! Next orders?

Pre: You wait there, my agents should deactivate the shield and the defenses any minute now!

Pre (through comlink): What in the name of Mandalore the First is taking you so long?! Deactivate the blasted systems!

Agent (through the comlink): Already working on it Mandalore! Just a few more seconds... Here, systems deactivated!

Momentarily, the defense systems are deactivated, and the dome becomes all too ****.

Rantar (flying out of cover as the huge metal gate disappears into the ground): Finally! Everybody, charge!

Satine: What has happened?! Our defenses are down! There must have been agents or traitors inside the dome well before the battle begun!

Obi-Wan: We cannot stay here! I'll escort Satine back to the palace, Lana, could you hold the situation here?

Lana: Certainly, go, I'll join you later!

Obi-Wan (hopping in a speeder with Satine): Just don't do anything unnecessarily too heroic, okay?

Lana (sarcastically): When have I ever done such a thing?

You stand ready to face the Mandalorians coming through the gate, expecting a handful of them. It becomes clear pretty quickly that there are more coming through than you could count in under a minute.

Lana (turning back and retreating back to the defense of the police ****): Alright, having myself killed by hundreds of Mandalorians is certainly something that qualifies for "nothing unnecessarily too heroic", so better defend another **** point!

You fly behind a barricade with your jetpack, finding just as many of Satine's men as Mandos coming against you. As they charge through the open street, they find themselves under heavy fire from the local military units. Getting behind cover again, they engage in a firefight.

Commander (to his comlink): Squad Delta and Gamma, report!

Squad Delta captain: We have encountered heavy resistance here, Clan Fett and Kryze have entered the dome!

Squad Gamma captain: Two clans, possibly Clan Varad and Dar'Manda, have appeared from the underground tunnel systems, we are under threat of being overrun! We need reinforcements ASAP!

Commander: Damn, if they take Squad Gamma's position, we'll be **** to fight on two fronts, which won't be maintainable for long! They will have us pinned down!

Lana: Don't worry commander, I'll handle them, you keep them busy here!

Commander: Roger that!

You fly from the barricade towards the tunnel entrance, where you find the outnumbered forces of Satine being pushed back by **** Watch. As they swarm out of the tunnel and already have you 4 to 1, you suggest the squad captain have a rocket fired into the building next to the tunnel, to have it collapse onto the entrance, blocking it for those still within.

Captain: Ma'am, that...! Not going to work! Even if we shoot a rocket into the building's base, it might just collapse onto itself or, not at all!

Lana: Just make sure to do that captain, I'll deal with the building!

Captain: Well, guess we have noting to lose... Private, rocket, 4 hours, base of the building! Fire!

The soldier fires a rocket right at the ground floor section of the walls of the building, it shakes a bit, but doesn't collapse yet. Then, you grab it with the **** and start pulling it towards the tunnel. It doesn't appear to budge, but you are persistent and keep pulling it, until it finally does. Amidst cracking, it slowly begins to move in the angle you wished. The Mandalorians under it realize what's happening and retreat from the area of the falling building, those still in the tunnel turn back and run for the protection of the underground construction. Having successfully sealed their exit point, you are still badly outnumbered there with those who have already entered the city. You join the firefight and help out Squad Gamma in the meantime. An hour of fighting takes place, where you gradually root out the two clans, man by man. They might have been able to deal with the policemen, but not with a Mandalorian Jedi. Just as the area seems to be secure soon, Clan Wren and Ha'rangir arrive from above, having previously blasted a hole into the dome and flown right in.

Your forces are thinned and exhausted, they won't be able to hold their own against two more clans. But nor do they plan to, they are ordered to retreat to another defensive position. The commander of Squad Aurek, whom you have met not long ago, has also been pushed back and wants to regroup. While the forces on the ground fall back, you fly right at your foes and fight them in the air. Flying towards you, you manage to take a few of them out by throwing some rubble at them, before getting into melee range.

Once you meet them up close, your sabers clash with their vibroblades, heroic but futile efforts of your one-woman-army against two clans with hundreds of members each, surrounding you. Even if Mandalorian honour would not allow a dozen men to attack one from all directions at the same time, you couldn't hope to hold them up for long. You wouldn't have managed that, had you not seen a familiar face among the crowd of enemies, your father. He waves at the soldiers to step aside, it's his turn now.

Ursa (clearing your vicinity of soldiers): Step aside! This is their family business.

Lana: Father.

Rantar: Lana. I told you we were going to meet today. Before we begin, I have to tell you something.

Lana: Yes?

Rantar: I have nothing left to say, I just wanted to know that, I have told you everything last time. You know all that you need to be the greatest member of our clan, in all terms.

Lana (speechlessly): ...

Rantar: There's just one little thing you should know. The man who shot at you during your duel. It was Gar Saxon.

Lana: Oh, the son of a! He ruined everything!

Rantar: I know, we all know. After identifying him as the sniper, he killed a few of our men who were sent to apprehend him, then he fled into the city and hid. Just wanted you to know, he's an enemy to both sides. Those without honour have no place among Mandalorians.

Lana: I'll find the fugitive and punish him myself!

Rantar (drawing his vibrosword): Be certain that you do! It would earn the respect of many of your kin. Now then... Are you ready to show your old man how strong you have become over the years?

Lana (taking a fighting stance): If I must... But don't you dare go easy on me!

Rantar: Oh, don't worry, I wasn't planning to do anything of the sort! In fact, I...! Lana, watch out!

A rocket is fired from a nearby building's balcony, aimed at your back. Your senses haven't warned you in time, but your father's battle-hardened ones alerted him of the danger. He jumps at you before you could even turn around, pushing you away from the explosion, and covers your body with his own. As you both hit the ground, everybody looks at the origin of the rocket.

Gar: Blast it, I missed again! Ah, well... Next time then.

Ursa (furiously): Saxon...! You bastard, this is the second time you've pulled something like this!

Gar (shouting): What's the matter Ursa? There are no rules in war! The stronger survives and rules!

Ursa (shouting back): I'll cut your balls off for this! You don't seem to have any, anyway!

Gar: You wish you had them, don't you? Sorry, they are way too big for you, girl!

Amidst their change of insults, you roll Rantar off of you and find him groaning, his armour still smoldering at spots from the powerful blast.

Lana: Father! Father!

Rantar (groaning): Eeehh.... Lana...

Lana (holding him in your arms and taking his helmet off): Father! Are you alright?!

Rantar (in pain): The explosion heated my armour a few places... Aaargh....! I...

Lana: You will be okay, I'll get you to a medbay! I'll find some bakta or kolto...!

Rantar: My child... I did... what I... had to. Every Mandalorian hopes to die in battles like this one...!

Lana (amidst tears): You aren't going to die just yet, you'll live to see an other battle, just hold on!

Rantar: Kind words... But I have already told you how proud I am of you... I am ready to see what comes after this life... Be well, my daughter...!

Lana (crying out as Rantar closes his eyes): Noo! I'll find you a medkit! I will...!

Ursa: Damn him! He's gone too far now! Men, after the traitor! And bring a medkit to Rantar, he must be taken to a medbay, ASAP!

Bunch of Mandalorians (Gar turning tail as he sees the activated jetpacks): Yes Ma'am!

Lana: Wait! Ursa... I have a proposition...

Ursa: Yes?

Lana: I propose a truce between us. Call back your men, I'll kill Gar myself! He has interrupted my duel and might have killed my father...! I deserve that kill!

Ursa (after a brief pause): Agreed. Pursuit canceled, return here, we'll press onward to the palace now! Now you can even the score. I'll watch out for Rantar and save his life if we can. Gar won't be staying here after having failed to stab you in the back once more, you should hurry! For Mandalore!

Lana (standing up and igniting your lightsabers): Thank you. I'll remember your deeds! As I will remember his!

Ursa: Just make sure he's properly punished, will you?

Lana: Don't worry about that. I'll bring you his balls if I can!

Ursa (smiling under her helmet): They won't take up much space anyway!

You get going towards the balcony from which Gar fired his rocket.
