Defend The Town

"Raven, get them out of here. I will cover your escape." I yelled and turned my horse around and headed for the woman. I let go of the reigns and fired putting it through a goblins neck though I was aiming for his head. I wasn't as good on horseback as I was on the ground. I fired at the second one and hit him in the eye now that I was closer. She ran in my direction.

"You guys get as many people in the wagon as you can and head south." Tomens brother said. He pulled a large hammer out of the back and charged the first goblin to come his direction and smacked him across the face with it. The goblin had been wearing a helmet but now it was part of his face. I popped one coming behind him and jumped off the horse.

"This way." One of the wagon drivers yelled to a group of people. They had a pack of goblins right behind them. I fired arrow after arrow as goblins fell. Tomen's brother kept close to the wagons and crushed goblin after goblin with his war hammer. I heard screaming coming from the brothel as half naked women came running out.

"Get to the wagon." I yelled as I ran toward the brothel passing several women. I fired on two goblins chasing them down the steps and went inside. I went room by room looking around and caught a straggler by surprise. I went up stairs after I hear a scream.

I caught one at the top of the stairs and followed the noise to a room where three goblins where trying to rape one of the girls. I popped the one trying to pry her legs open. One came running at me with sword. I dodged back into the hall and drew my blade. I swatted his downward and came back up slashing him across his neck. When I looked up I saw the goblin on the bed throw a spear which I barley dodged. He gave a look of panic on his face having just thrown only weapon he carried. Little bastard ran for the window and jumped out.

"Come on." I said and offered the woman my hand and lead her out. I heard another woman scream as a goblin was dragging her out of the room by her hair. I checked the rooms going from one to another ready for whatever. We went down the steps and out the door. "Head that way." I pointed. I could see men fighting the goblins using swords, pickaxes, pitchforks and whatever they could get their hands on. Buildings were burning all around the town. I spotted another group of goblins coming to reinforce their kindred who were fighting the towns folk.

I drew and fired as fast as I could taking down three of them before reaching back to my quiver to realize it was empty as one of them charged me.

"Ad manus mea" I said and held out my hand and drew my last arrow back to me out of the skull of a dead Goblin and fired it again. "Parvus ignis incendium." I gestured with my hand and lit ones clothing on fire and kicked him backward into the pack of goblins behind him. I drew my sword and struck down the next two. Suddenly a large figure came out of no where behind me. I turned just in time to see a massive Ogre swing a mace. He sent me flying as the mace hit me in the chest and took me off of my feet. I landed and rolled several feet before I stopped. I struggled for breath as my side burned with intense pain. I saw my sword and crawled for it but just as I reached it the orc stepped on the blade. He smiled and raised his mace above his head. I barley dodge it as he left an impression in the ground where I had been. Every breath I took burned like hell.

I saw a group of goblins behind him waiting for one of us to kill the other.

"Fuck it." I said and took my stance. "Fulgur egrediens amet." I yelled and lightening shot from my hands hitting the Ogre and then struck the goblins around him. I fell to the ground gasping for air. It felt like I hadn't eaten, drank, or slept in days. I tried to get back up but my body couldn't move. My arms trembled beneath me. I collapsed to the ground as everything faded to black.

When I opened my eyes I saw a roof. I looked around at the room but didn't recognize the place. I tried to sit up but my muscles felt weak.

"Whoa easy their." A voice said. I turned to see Halley as she came over and sat on the bed beside me. I went to respond but my voice felt dry. "Here have some water." She said pouring me a cup and helping me sit up to drink it.

"Where..." I coughed. "Where am I?"

"Me and Heidi's place. Your back in the city. The healer said you cast a spell that almost killed you as it drained all of your magica. Your lucky to be alive. She said you will recover but you need time to restore its energy.

"How long have I been here?"

"A week." She said.

"What happened to the town?"

"Destroyed, luckily your spell was enough to make the goblins flee in fear. They managed to get most of the people out of the town which is more then can be said for some. They hit five other towns that same day. While the ogres took Greystone castle and several military strong holds in the area." Anyone they didn't kill was taken as slaves. That meant they had cut off all trade in the north but the attack was to well organized to be just goblins. A knock came at the door.

"Come in." Halley said. Rose came in and smiled as she saw me.

"Your awake. I hope your hungry because I brought you some food." Rose came over with a basket. The second the smell hit my nose my stomach grumbled.

"Starving." I nodded. I dug into the food as if it was the best thing I had ever eaten.

"Rose has been by every day to check on you." Halley said. I spent the next few days sleeping and eating until my strength returned enough that I could get up and walk without falling over and killing myself.
