Chapter 4 by AbsoluteZero AbsoluteZero

Go with the "default" option or create an avatar?

Default

Not wanting to waste any more time than she already had, Suzy chose the default setting. Most MMORPG's would eventually give a transformation type potion that allowed free customization. If she liked being human, she no doubtedly would be able to change her appearance then, right?

After submitting her default twice, seeing as editting appearances after gameplay wasn't included in this current patch of the game, a cutscene ensued. It went into detail of how the humans had taken over the world in the game and now governed majority of the place, minus the lesser populated areas were many monsters roamed.

Not long after the cutscene started, it began to flicker and act very strangely. Once it stabilized, a prompt showed in the center of the screen.

"This game is better experienced through VR. Would you like to initialize VR gameplay? Headset not required."

Suzy cocked her head to the side. Headset... not required? How was that possible?

Shrugging it off, seeing as any crashes or bugs that were irreparable might get her her money back, Suzy allowed for it to happen. Only for something strange to happen.

The screen read: "This setting cannot be reversed. Please confirm" but didn't give her the option to cancel. **** to confirm, Suzy did one more time.

The screen began to warp and a loud screeching noise permeated through her head. She wasn't sure what was going on, but all she wanted was for it to stop. She tried turning her speakers off, but that didn't work. She tried shutting her monitor off, but that didn't work. Before she went to completely shut off her computer, she felt her vision grown blurry and eventually into darkness. The experience appeared to be too much for her.

"Ugh..." Suzy groaned as she woke up to the floor moving beneath her.

Except that it wasn't the floor to her home but rather the floor of a... caravan?

Her eyes readjusted to the world around her and she noticed that it was still night outside, but she was in a really old wagon with many bags of food and other goods surrounding her. If she peeked through the cloth covering of the wagon, she could see an older woman steering the horses pulling the wagon.

"I see you're finally awake."

Suzy looked up to see a young girl, perhaps the same age as herself, looking cautiously over her. The girl had blonde hair that was braided into a single braid that landed in the middle of her back. She wore what looked to be leather armor and a bow and a quiver of arrows were strapped to her back.

"You've been out for quite some time, Miss. Are you feeling alright? Do you need any water?"

Suzy pulled back a little before realizing that the only thing covering her was a blanket. She caught it just in time before her breasts were exposed.

"W-Where am I," Suzy asked, her hands gripping tightly to the blanket now.

"We're on the way to Avalon, the human capital of the world. We found you lying motionlessly on the road about a day's journey back."

"Ethira! Are you talking to the stranger?!" The older woman at the front of the wagon spoke harshly at the younger girl, almost as if verbally punishing her already.

Ethira, the girl that had cautiously spoken to Suzy, looked like she was preparing herself before she spoke. "Yes, ma'am. But only because she looked frightened."

"I don't care! I told you not to talk to strangers until we got closer to the city! What if she was bitten by a blood-sucker or got impregnated by some of those plant things?"

Plant... things? Impregnated? Suzy couldn't fathom the words that the old woman spoke. But she did know that she was in the game. Avalon was the city spoken about in the cut scene. But... then again, it could be a dream.

Suzy pinched herself to see if she could wake up.

Needless to say, it didn't work.

Looking down at herself, Suzy looked just like she had back in her world. Had the default option meant that she would look like herself? But how would the game have known how she looked? Hell, how did she get inside of the actual game?

"I guarantee you, ma'am, that that didn't happen. I merely..." Suzy thought up a quick lie. "... passed out from exhaustion. I had been walking nonstop for days in hopes of reaching Avalon sooner. Walking alone is very dangerous, after all."

The older woman scoffed at Suzy's words before replying. "Yeah. And you had no weapons, no gear, or anything like that. If you were truly traveling, you were very ill prepared."

Ethira frowned as she looked around. "We don't have much but once we get to town, I'll be sure to get you some clothes. It would be very cruel to let a naked woman walk around the capital."

Yeah... cruel was definitely a word for it.

Suddenly, the caravan came to a halt and the older woman hushed them both. A screeching sound could be heard from outside, one that sent chills down Suzy's spine. Though the older woman was signaling for everyone to stay still and quiet, Suzy felt the need to look outside.

Does Suzy look out of the wagon?
