Chapter 52 by Nopse

Decisions... postponed

Leaving the bistro, she kissed Katzenberg goodbye and hailed a cab. Nick had offered his limo for a ride, but she knew that a "ride" in his limo also meant a "ride" for Katzenberg. She wasn't totally opposed to that, but she was on a mission. MJ figured it out. She had the paperwork from Katzenberg. She couldn't do it anymore. It was time to make a clean break from Peter Parker.

Now she just had to give Peter the bad news.

When Mary Jane came home, she was expecting Peter to still be at his same spot in front of the couch, wearing the same clothes he had just been wearing that day, and the day before, and the day before...

She cleaned up a bit while she had the time. She wondered why she was doing any of it since she was most likely just going to leave as soon as she could. She was nervous... and cleaning made her feel a bit less so.

Deep inside she did feel guilty. She didn't want to be with Peter anymore and that was a pain in her heart. It hurt, but she knew it was for the best (for both of them) to make this move.

After the apartment was fairly clean, she sat down with her paperwork at the kitchen table, waiting for her husband to come home.

She debated in her mind if she could really go through with it, all the time alone in the kitchen helping her to figure it out.

Eventually Peter, in his Spider-Man costume swung into the living room. He pulled off his mask, made his way into the kitchen, and kissed MJ on the cheek.

"Hey Peter...we need to talk....,"she started out. A very somber voice to her as she held tightly on to the manilla folder.

He opened the fridge looking for something to eat.

"Yeah shoot... Man, web-swinging just gets me so hungry..."

MJ exasperated, "Peter... look... we have been back and forth over a lot of things..."

He was gnawing on a cold chicken leg, almost not listening, as he kept his head peered inside the refrigerator looking for more items to devour.

"I agree," he stated, popping his head out for a second.

"And it seems as though we have both been trying..." she continued on.

Peter had found a cold slice of pizza and was now working on that but was still looking for something else inside the fridge.

"Un-huh," his voice echoed from behind the door.

"It just seems as if maybe... maybe... there might not be a way for all of this to work..."

Mary Jane, a little disturbed by his lack of attention took a deep breath and refocused.

"What I am trying to say is that I... I... I want..."

When all of a sudden, *POOF* Peter was gone. A cloud of smoke filled the kitchen smelling of brimstone. The fire alarm starting to beep loudly in the tiny space.

*BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!*

*BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!*

"Peter?!" Mary Jane yelled out as she got up from the table.

*BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!*

*BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!*

She looked around, waving the smoke down in their kitchen. She *coughed* a bit and turned off the smoke detector, knocking it off the ceiling in the process. When the smoke had cleared, MJ just sat back down at the kitchen table clearly frustrated. She put her head on the table, on the signed divorce papers.

Taking another deep breath, she yelled out.

"FUUUUUUUUUUCK!"

She followed up at the top of her voice, "A DIVORCE! I WANT A FUCKING DIVORCE!"

With nobody around, Mary Jane got up, pulled her wedding off, and placed it right on top the paper stack. She walked right out of the apartment, leaving everything behind, and not looking back.
