What's next?
Debbie returns, ice cream in hand
Debbie returns moments later, happily licking her ice cream. “Hey, guys, this is really—”, she stops cold.
Her eyes lock onto the scene in front of her: Jessie and Jake pressed together, kissing without restraint, utterly absorbed in each other.
“What the fuck?” Debbie snaps.
Jake and Jessie pull apart instantly. Jessie blinks, confused. “What? What’s wrong?”
Debbie’s chest tightens as shock twists into hurt. “Are you serious right now?” she demands.
She steps toward Jake, eyes blazing. “How can you do this to me?!”
Jake opens his mouth, struggling to respond, but Debbie doesn’t wait.
“How could you, Jake?” she shouts, slapping his cheek hard enough to turn heads. “We’re done. I’m breaking up with you!”
Before either of them can say another word, she turns and runs, tears streaking down her face as she disappears into the crowd.
Jake stands there, stunned, hand hovering uselessly near his cheek. “What… what was that for?” he mutters.
Jessie watches Debbie go, genuinely bewildered. “What’s gotten into her?” she asks. “Why does she even date a guy with a kissing compulsion if she’s gonna be that clingy about it?”
Jake’s shoulders slump as he looks after Debbie. “She really broke up with me,” he says quietly — more stunned by the sudden loss of his access to regular kissing a cute girl rather than the breakup itself.
Jessie’s confusion melts into a slow, mischievous smile.
“Aww,” she says sweetly. “Poor boy.” She steps closer. “If you want… you can be my boyfriend instead.”
Jake’s face brightens instantly. “Really?” His eyes light up. “Can I keep kissing you, then?”
Jessie laughs. “Keep buying me stuff,” she says lightly, “and you can.”
She giggles and turns back toward the counter, already waiting for him to follow.
