Day Three Part 2.
Jay and Jenny stared at the mirror in shock. It seemed obvious to Jay now that Jenny had changed. She was smaller and thinner. Her hair had gone from auburn and straight to jet black and curly, and her eyes had turned to a deep green. His own eyes had become piercingly green. One week ago they had born no resemblance, but today they could be siblings.
Not brother and sister, he thought bitterly. He was no longer obviously male-bodied. He appeared as he was, caught in a transition between two sexes. He probed that thought curiously. Why didn't it bother him?
"Jay." she said, snapping him out of his reverie. "Jay, what are we gonna do?" Jay turned to see his girlfriend in tears. He quickly embraced her, his strange new body pressed against hers.
"I don't know, babe. We're gonna figure this out." He held her close as she sobbed into his shoulder.
He felt so much compassion for her, but he was also aware that his sense of Jenny as his girlfriend was somewhat distant. He felt detached and remote from everything. His girlfriend, his job, his apartment - they all didn't feel quite like his anymore.
Jenny sniffled and pulled back to look at him. Looking in her eyes, a terrifying truth dawned on him. He spun around to look at himself in the mirror again and confirmed it. "Oh my God."
She looked alarmed. "What? What happened?" She turned his head to look at her again. "What happened, Jay?"
He didn't know how to tell her. "I think I know this person." He swallowed hard. She looked at him pleadingly. "What? How? Who is it?"
As he thought about how to tell her, he realized that his newfound detachment was a blessing. The thought of causing Jenny pain and breaking her heart was terrible, but he wasn't really afraid of a breakup or even a nasty fight. Thinking about it, he really didn't mind if she walked out and never came back.
"Jenny, I need to tell you something. But I need to get dressed first."
She followed him into the bedroom, a look of apprehension on her face. As he put on his clothes, he noticed that they were predictably very baggy. Finally, he sat down on the bed and motioned for her to sit next to him.
"Jenny," he began in his strange new voice, "when you were out of town, I went out with some friends." It hadn't been with friends but he wanted to present this in the best possible light. "They all went home early, so it was just me at the club. I'd had some drinks and maybe a little molly." He could read in her face that she knew where this was going. "Jenny, babe, I met a woman. I was so fucked up, I didn't know what I was doing."
Tears were streaming down her face. "You son of a bitch." she whispered quietly. "Babe, I'm so sorry." he said, and he really was. He didn't like to see her in pain like this. "I messed up. I know it. I'm sorry. But right now we've got a problem. She, uh, looked like me. And you. She looked like us."
Jenny didn't say a word. She got up, wiped her eyes, and walked out of the room. Jay followed her, pleading with her. "Jenny, wait! We need to talk about this!" She ignored him and slammed the door behind her. Jay was left standing in the living room with tears in his newly green eyes.
