Day Six

It was a surprise for me to wake up before the alarm. More surprising was Kaylee and I were more or less in the same spot we had fallen asleep in. I held her tightly as I felt my arm rise and fall with her slow breaths. Staring at the back of her head, the events of last night rushed over me. Kaylee and I had sex. That tiny voice didn’t stay mute. It whispered endlessly, shuffling through memories I’d rather lay buried.

It fell silent as I felt Kaylee shift against me. Slowly, she turned to face me. “Morning,” she said, looking at me through half-closed eyes.

“How are you feeling?”

“Sore,” she whispered, closing her eyes. I doubted she was talking about skiing.

“About—”

“Later. After coffee. And breakfast.”

I leaned towards her only to get a smack in the face. How the hell had she known what I was doing with her eyes closed?

“You better not be trying to kiss me before brushing your teeth.”

“Well, I guess I better get up then.”

She rolled back over, grabbing my arm and holding me in place. “Ten more minutes…”
