Daniela comes to join her

“Is this seat taken?”

Blair looked up at the girl who had asked the question. She didn’t wait for an answer before sitting down across from her.

“You’re Blair Morison right?” The girl asked? She had dazzling blue eyes that Blair found both beautiful and unnerving.

“Yes?” The blonde said with caution and trepidation. She was still very taken aback by the girl in front of her.

“Hi! I’m Daniela! I’ve been looking for a chance to talk to you and I couldn’t believe my luck when here you are!”

Lots of questions floated through Blair’s mind at once. Everything about the girl in front of her radiated confidence and ease. Not the kind of person who’d leave anything up to chance. So the fact that this was a chance meeting felt like a lie.

“And why do you want to talk to me?” Blair tried to return the casual confidence, but felt unsuccessful. The radiant smile on the round face across from her never wavered.

“I’m not gonna beat around the bush Blair, I like you. I really like you.”

This took the freshman girl by complete surprise. “Oh wow I’m flattered, but I don’t swing that way… plus I don’t really know you…”

Daniela’s laugh seemed to fill the whole dining hall with glee as the sharp chuckle escaped her mouth.

“Not like that! I’m sorry!” She chuckled again. Despite the absurdity of the interaction so far Blair felt with every second the warmth from the girl across from her untied the nervous knot in her stomach. She couldn’t help but let her guard down.

“What I meant,” the auburn haired girl continued “was I like you and I want you to join my Sorority!”

Blair peaked up at the mention of this “What Sorority? I thought rush was over? I didn’t get any bids?”

“Well we aren’t officially a Sorority that participates in rush…” Daniela seemed to be choosing her words carefully. “Have you heard of Delta Mu?”

“Only a little bit. Not really?” Blair lied. In truth she had heard a lot about Delta Mu during her week of rushing and generally around campus. During the many presentations they had had to attend as part of rush they had heard all about the perils of joining an off campus fraternity or sorority. The office of sorority and fraternity life had made them out to be abusive trouble makers whom whenever one of their members was caught out of line was expelled immediately.

But the more whispered gossip around the campus dorms were that these off campus sororities and fraternities were some of the most exclusive to get into. They threw the best parties. The members were amongst the most popular and well connected on campus. In truth a lot of the rumors Blair had heard sounded crazy. And the craziest rumors surrounded Delta Mu.

“Well I’ll take that as you’ve heard some of the many rumors that that viscous hag Amanda spreads during rush to try and scare everyone into joining one of her “respectable” sororities” she smile which Blair returned. “All I will say to that is with every rumor, no matter how exaggerated, their is a grain of truth.” She smiled her biggest and most mischievous smile to date.

“Now I’m sure you have a lot of questions. Some of which I can and some of which I cannot answer. But irregardless this is not the place to ask them.” She gestured around at the dining hall. A fresh wave of students had just walked in with another block of classes having just let out. “How about I buy you a drink tonight. Do you know where the Crimson Barrel is?”

“Isn’t that the shitty dive bar just off campus?” Blair asked surprised.

Daniela acted with fake offense and Blair couldn’t help but laugh. “Why I have never heard such blasphemy about one of the most respectable watering holes in town!” She finished the sentence with a wink. “That’s the one. I’ll be at a booth in the back corner. Your drinks are on me so don’t worry about going to the bar or about needing a fake ID. 7pm. ”

Before Blair could answer the girl had stood and disappeared into the crowd.
