Dancing With The Twilight Princess

"Oh ho! Very nice!"

Dave blushed. "Come off it. It's not impressive at all." He rolled his eyes. "I can't believe that this is what you wanted to see. It doesn't even fit right anymore..."

Midna chuckled and tilted her head smiling... But oddly it wasn't mischievous.., or at least not as mischievous as usual. The smile she gave him was sweet... Fond, even. "Yes, this is what I wanted to see." She reached up and adjusted the hat on his head. "True the rest of the outfit doesn't fit you anymore..." She smiled sadly. "And I don't have those memories, sadly... However!" She perked up stroking the Differently darker colored Link Style hat on his head. "From the moment I saw that video I wanted to see this! In fact it's better that it doesn't fit! The young hero all grown up!"

Dave still felt foolish but he smiled at the Twili beauty. True his old Link style suit didn't fit anymore. But the cap sort-of did and so did the belt luckily enough. She'd wanted to see him in his gear and now he was. Not cheap replicas either. An actual Master Sword and Hylian shield. All the other gear too. "Yes. I'm all " grown up". Lucky thing the Twilight Princess series uses a more grown Link than others... But I never outgrew certain things. Not Tink. Not Harley.. Not you, Midna. I..."

Midna turned and looked up. "Tell me... Does all that equipment work?"

Dave raised his head following her gaze and nodded. "It does. Clawshot?"

Midna raised an eyebrow teasingly. "Think you can make the shot?"

Dave smiled. "Absolutely. Shall I carry you there, Princess?"

Midna nodded. "Sorry... I know it's a selfish request as I can't get in your shadow- Oh!"

Dave had literally pulled her to him wrapping an arm around her holding her close. "Hold onto me tightly, please?" He asked gazing into her red eyes.

"Yes, " Hero"," she said wrapping her arms around his neck smiling. "Shall I change my size?"

Dave smiled too. "If you like but there's no need. I'm much bigger now."

She nodded smiling. "Yes... So I see." She gripped him tightly pressing her body to his. "Ready when you are!"

Dave quickly took aim to the top of the tallest tower and fired. The grappling claw like device on the end of the chain shot out and finding purchase then pulled them quickly through the air. Midna let out a small laugh and Dave grinned to hear it. *It feels good to hear it,* he thought as he hoped up onto the ledge and carried her over. He set her down smiling. "Top floor, Milady!"

She laughed smiling taking in the view but shook her head. "Appreciated, kind Sir but... You don't have to do that you know."

Dave joined her in taking in the view. "I know... You also don't have to act the way you have been."

Midna looked slightly impressed. "You knew? I suppose you would." She sighed but breathed in deeply and spread her arms feeling the breeze. "I shouldn't be surprised. We were friends after all. No point in playing games and hiding who I am."

Dave shook his head and smiled. "You may not remember but we still are as far as I'm concerned. No matter what happens. No matter if you remember or not, that doesn't change it for me." He held her hand. "It just means I have to be as good a friend to you as I can until you feel that way too. I promise, Midna. I'll always be your friend. You don't have to act any particular way to get what you want." He chuckled and looked into her eyes. "And truth be told I enjoyed being your "servant" and your mischievousness, sense of humor, the way we had fun together... And when you stopped "play acting" and became serious. When you trusted me. When you asked for my help and simply offered your own. I was and still am happy. That was precious to me. Touched me. That's all I want from you and I'll happily wait and build towards that again."

Midna smirked. "So you like my teasing, do you? Are you sure that's " all you want" from me?"

Dave blushed but didn't turn from her gaze and nodded. "I won't lie. I have... desires... But none stronger or greater than my desire to make you happy and be your friend. That is the most important thing to me."

She smiled genuinely and gently cupped his cheek with her hand. "I see... Thank you, David. I may not remember but I know you mean that and that came from the heart... And I recognize that you are my friend. A very good one... I shall try to be deserving of that and do my part in regrowing our bond. It makes me very happy... You make me happy." She wiped at her eyes at the sametime as she wiped at his as he held her hand touching his cheek... Then tilted her head and her smile turned playful again. "So your other "desires"... Care to tell me about those? Hmmmm?" She had decided she liked seeing him blush... And the way he made her feel too.

Dave did blush some more but nodded. "Certainly. I love you, Midna." He liked seeing her blush as well. "I fell in love with you during our adventures. I never stopped loving you. As a special friend. As my precious partner... And as a person."

She swallowed and tried to recover teasing playfully. "I see... When I recovered my true form-"

Dave shook his head and squeezed her hand. "No. Almost from the start. Your laugh. Your smile. Your eyes. The way you "played". The way you teased. And that only grew as you revealed your true nature to me. Your good advice. Your noble spirit. Your dedication. Your caring heart. Your beautiful soul."

"B-But we were that awful, cursed Imp-"

He drew her into a hug. "No. Even then you were beautiful to me. Cute even! And I was a beast half the time which didn't do me any favors I'm sure but I loved you then too... And I know you had things you enjoyed about that form too! The freedom. We both were free in a way. That's why I fused your two forms and went out of my way to get you the ability to shift them. It might sound strange as your "owner" but that's also something that I want. For you to have that "freedom" from being the Princess too if you want. To be able to freely indulge in being the imp as well. To play, laugh, and love life as much and as freely as possible. I didn't want you to be stuck in the Twilight realm just like I didn't want you to be stuck being a "Princess"... Not without a choice and certainly not without me by your side to support you. Help you. That's what friends who care for each other do."

Now she really was crying. "I... I don't... I don't know what I did... T-To deserve such friendship... But thank you! T-Thank you for being my friend! I promise... I will do my part to rebuild that as quickly and strongly as possible!" She sniffles and laughed. "I'm so happy for some reason! No... You make me so happy!" She hugged him tighter.

Dave smiled hugging her tighter too for a moment before drying her eyes. "Good. Because you make me so happy so that's what I want to do for you." He smiled and tapped his phone and Pepper started playing Carmen Fantasie. "Dance?" he asked as he started to lead remembering her request.

Midna grinned and laughed deeply delighted. "You're a mad fool aren't you?! What if we fall off the tallest tower?"

Dave grinned. "Then we'll have the finest final dash to the bottom. Either way... You in my arms? What bliss!"

Her laughter rang out more. "I was right! You ARE mad! What fun!"

Dave winked as he spun her out. "Everything is madness I've found. Especially the deluded fools who think they're "sane". If I've learned anything from the others it's this... It's best to embrace the insanity of life, before it embraces you!" He reeled her back in grinning.

She smiled in his embrace looking up at him. "Yes."

Dave smiled to as they danced about. "Yes?"

Midna nodded. "Yes. If this is madness? Then I don't want to be sane. Can you do that for me? Can you lead me down the path of madness in this world? Drive me mad... Make me fall madly in love with you?"

Dave smiled as the twilight deepened around them. He stopped and took her hand. Looking into her eyes he bowed kissing it. "As you wish!"

They both smiled staring into the others eyes. Dave suddenly remembered something she'd said earlier. "Would you like to?"

Midna chuckled and started their dance again. "Would I like to what now exactly?!"

Dave chuckled. "Join shadows? Be able to slip in and out of my shadow again?"

She blinked. "Really? I thought you'd like to be free of such a connection-"

"Not at all," he said shaking his head. "I'd thought the same of you but honestly I'd quite like that again if you decided that was something you wanted for yourself!"

Midna smiled sighing laying her head on his shoulder. "You're not just saying these things are you, " hero"? You honestly mean them, don't you? "

Dave nodded. "I do. But I only want you to be happy. If they displease-"

"No!" Midna firmly said shaking her head. "That too makes me happy... Very happy! Let's not rush into it right away... but let's not dally or delay either!"

Dave nodded and held her closer. "I promise then... I won't make either of us wait longer than we want to. Not for anything!"

She touched his cheek smiling. They both felt something draw them close to one another. Dave swept her into a dip. They closed their eyes, their lips just about brushing each other and-

"Sorry to interrupt. Dinner preparations will be completed shortly."

They both opened their eyes and turned their heads to see Dorothy standing there on the edge of the parapet... Looking at them. Awaiting an answer, they realized. Did she do that on purpose? Her face was inscrutable as always.

Dave sighed and swept Midna up from the dip and kissed her hand once again. He did note that she was blushing and smiling as well as he so not all was lost. "Thank you for the dance."

Midna smiled. "It was my pleasure! Thank you for honoring my request!"

Dave smiled at Dorothy. "Thank you, Dorothy. I shall be down to help momentarily."

Dorothy nodded. "Understood." She curtsied and hopped backwards off the tower and away making her return to the kitchen.

Midna chuckled. "What an interesting lady!"

Dave shook his head but he also chuckled. "They all are... You'll fit right in!" He winked.

Midna laughed and he did too. They continued laughing all the way down the stairs.
